Which language/s do you know, and how did you learn them/it?

English is my first language.

I’m learning Beijing Mandarin Chinese at Uni. I had been been studying it already for six years at school. (I also went to China, which was really interesting.)

Wo xihuan xue hanyu! (I like studying chinese.)

I learnt Japanese for four years at school too, but I didn’t do it in senior, and I don’t remember much any more.

So please:

  • Which languages;
  • How you learnt them;
    and just for fun
  • An example of a sentence and its meaning.

I studied Spanish for 3 years in high school and 1 year in college; and I studied French (intensive–2 yrs in 1) in college.

I can’t even remember much Spanish anymore, because I’ve been so immersed in French.

A sentence in French . . . J’ai envie de faire pee-pee. (I need to go to the potty!) Oh, you mean you wanted a serious sentence? Okay, um, lessee, Je suis allee a la bibliotheque hier soir. (I went to the library yesterday evening.) I’m missing the accent marks, but you get the picture, right?

I’ve worked so hard this past year in the French that I really want to make sure I don’t lose it. So to keep current with it, I listen to DVD’s in French, read magazines and books in French, converse a little with my dh in French, etc.
