I’ve been on Spectrum Mobile for a while and I’m paying $50 a month for one line with unlimited data. Based on TV ads I’ve seen, I think I can probably get a better deal from someone else. If you changed your service provider in the past year, who did you choose and why did you choose them if you had a specific reason?
Google Fi. Little to no bullshit, uses the T-mobile network, much better than Verizon. No fees in Canada and Mexico, which is nice for us Montanans.

We got the unlimited standard. We’ll upgrade for a month since we’re heading to Europe on the 31st.

ChatGPT suggests I look at Visible Wireless based on where I live. They use Verizon’s cell network which is what I am on now and it seems to be the best around here. They’re pricing looks good, but I’ve never heard of them so I need to find out more about who they are.
Visible is directly owned by Verizon; it’s their brand name for prepaid mobile phone plans, which use their same Verizon network.
Visible’s Wikipedia article indicates that they are a “bargain” brand, with no brick-and-mortar presence (and apparently all customer service is online/app based); as a result, they have historically been known for poor customer service (though the reports of that in Wikipedia are several years old).
We’re in Bozeman. I’ll be interested to hear how the other recommendations pan out!
Visible is who I switched to when Verizon got to be $65 a month (and not unlimited).
I now pay $35 a month for unlimited with Visible and have been pleased. I could keep my number and the switchover is all online. Even I could do it and that’s saying something. No brick and mortar stores, customer service is all online chat but that also has been fine.
Visible is a wholly owned subsidiary of Verizon.
The first question is which of the carriers have good service in the areas you want to use it in?
The second question is exactly how many minutes, texts, and data do you need?
Often a MVNO will offer a cheaper plan than AT&T/Verizon/T-Mobile.
Thanks for that. Does that mean you are on the Visible+ Pro plan? I’m curious why you wanted that one instead of the slightly cheaper Visible+ plan.
I’m on a Visible + plan as far as I know. Didn’t need the Pro plan because I don’t need a smartwatch service line or much international coverage. $35 a month is what that cost ( the +) here after the introductory discount codes wear off.
Another plug for Google Fi.
I have the flexible plan.
I also have a compatible Android phone, so I get networking switching when I travel across an ocean from the U.S., which I do 6-7 times a year.
The international service is seamless, and has never let me down.
Although iPhone 14+ users can use Google Fi, overseas they can’t use networking switching, so it switches to roaming carriers, which is very pricy, thereby negating the advantage that frequently traveling Android users have.
Surveyed a group of friends and majority liked T-Mobile so switched to it from Verizon. Saved money and no change in service.
And another. Been very pleased with Google Fi, and love that I don’t need to do a thing when we travel overseas - service just switches over. Two lines, cost is right around $45 a month total.

US Mobile, the only company I’m aware of that uses all 3 major networks. I was on the higher tier plan which let me switch between networks so I tried them all. I lowered the plan so it would be $2 to switch again, but with the exception of 1 area, Verizon towers work the best for me.
I may need to change my provider so I am reading this with interest. Google Fi sounds good but I already rely on Google for so much. Should I select a different company just to spread risk?
