I am interested in knowing which Muslim countries require women to cover up by law and which ones do not do so. The Wikipedia page on Hijab goes into some details for certain countries, while for others it’s sources are lacking. The article is good in terms of giving readers a background, but still lacks a list of which countries in the Muslim world(not just the Middle East) require women to wear at least a hijab, as well which nations allow women freedom to dress how they wish.
I know Iran and Saudi Arabia do require women to cover, and nations like Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, Tunisia and Turkey do not require women to cover their hair.
I am aware that in many countries it is widespread and traditional for women to do so, however it is not required by law necessarily. Google and other searches fail to give a definitive, updated list. I’m not interested in laws outside the Muslim world, for example bans in Belgium and France on the burka or what not.
Any help would be appreciated.
