Which network is likely to give me the most C-SPAN like coverage of the Papal funeral. I don’t really want a lot of people talking over the service. I will generally know what’s going on. If anything, I would prefer graphics to explain some parts.
I wonder what EWTN is going to do. They would seem to at least be the best bet for totally respectable and not interviewing Sinead O’Connor, Robert Blake and three of the kids from ZOOM for their opinions during quiet moments.
Well, according to the C-SPAN website, they’re going to cover it, starting at 4am Eastern time, so that might be your best bet.
The BBC is usually good at this sort of event, but I don’t know if any US network is going to broadcast it. (I thought perhaps BBC America, but not according to their online schedule.)
I’ve been watching a little of the funeral before leaving for work, and moving between the networks. C-Span is the best, followed by the BBC. On C-Span there is no constant talk, they just have the camera on the events. When there are Latin prayers, a speaker translates into English, but that’s it. The BBC has commentary, but it seems more scholarly and quiet.
Just now the litany of the saints has been sung, and the eastern Catholic rites are singing a prayer. Thank heavens there is no commentary, one can just listen to the voices.
I’m a Third-Shift worker & forgot to set up the VCR so I came home to catch a bit on lunch break. MSNBC was good for the part I saw- no chatter, just translation & essential commentary- I came in soon after Cardinal Ratzinger started his homily & left after the international representatives offered the bread & wine.
