Which (possible) drug was I given?

Last year my stomach tore and I was in incredible pain. After several shots of mophine didn’t help, they gave me a drug that didn’t take the pain away, but basically took me out of myself. In other words, I was aware that I was still in pain, but it didn’t matter to me anymore.

What drug might this have been?

Was it injected? Most likelyKetamine. Wonderful stuff, the media calls it a ‘horse tranquilizer,’ it is a common battlefield painkiller. It leaves your mind clear, but gets rid of the pain.

Sound like it?

Is there one called Fentanyl? Something with an “F”. My SIL has a patch with this stuff.

Fentanyl is the Best Drug Ever! I just had lung surgery and had a fentanyl epidural for a couple of days afterwards – no pain at all. However, it seems unlikely that this is the drug the OP received, since fentanyl is definitely a pain-killer and doesn’t (at least to me) have the kind of detachment effect the OP described.

I got dosed with Ketamine unknowingly once, and it sure didn’t leave my mind clear. Well, I guess it was sort of clear, as in I couldn’t stop thinking, “Why the fuck can’t I stand up or speak? Why do I feel so wonky? Why am I seeing seven layers of everything, that move independantly of one another? What the fuck is going on?” But I couldn’t get past the questions and form a coherent thought to arrive at any answers. Thank god my friends were there to chase off (literally) the guys who were planning on raping me.

My guess for the OP would be Demerol or Stadol. Neither one of them does spit for the actual pain, in my experience, but they made me just not care a whole lot. (At one point, the nurse came to say she was going to give me another shot, and I just looked up at her and giggled, “That’s okay, I’m TINGLING! Ow. Heehee.” This was during back labor.

There is one with an “F” that unlike fentanyl is not an opiate. It works as described, you just kind of dissociate from the pain.
… Fiorinal?

I was pretty out of it when I got a fat shot of liquid Demorol once.

Dude, your stomach tore? Man, now I’m going to be thinking about that all day. Lunch is going to suck.

[SUB]Maybe I’ll just have something light. Really, REALLY light.[/SUB]

Flexeril maybe.

I was given Dilaudid when I had appendicitis last year. It worked as you described. In fact, I told the nurse that I could still feel the pain – I just didn’t care.

After surgery I was given Morphine, which wasn’t nearly as potent. I asked for (and got) more Dilaudid.

I believe that’s a muscle relaxant. When I took it, the effect was to make it impossible to read or keep my eyes open. Not tired, just couldn’t focus.

When I had my (seriously impacted) wisdom teeth taken out, they gave me a Valium IV.

I was conscious of the pain, but somehow it didn’t actually “hurt”, and I really didn’t care.

Dilaudid makes me high but does not take away my pain. I don’t like taking it for that reason. Before I was just in pain, now I am high and disoriented and still in pain. The only reason I take it is to just help me sleep until the pain goes away. Morphine worked better for me as an actual painkiller.

Demerol is the only one I have had that made me just not care I was still in pain. Like WhyNot, I had it for back labor.

I guess the OP could have gotten lots of things, different people will react differently to drugs so it’s hard to say.
