Which singer's voice makes you weak in the knees?

Ditto. “I Can’t Make You Love Me” is the best break up song ever. Heard it on the radio the other day, and it almost brought me to tears again.

Twickster, next time we have a local dopefest we should bring and exchange cds. . And if you want to select the music when Jayjay and I decide to have a commitment ceremony, more’s the better. I love Liz Phair and Kate Bush, and Annie Lennox is my pop god(dess). Saw her sing this past summer in Hershey. By the time she finished with “Why” I was a big ole blubbery mess.

Eva Cassidy and Tori Amos. Jeff Buckley would probably do it for me if I was a girl.

Jamie Cullum has an adoring fangirl in yours truly, and Norah Jones is fanatically followed by the same. Now if they’d just team up for a duet…

If I were a guy, I’d be hot for them, too. Alas, being a former choir geek, I will just appreciate them from an aesthetic viewpoint.

However, the Rustavi Choir: rrrrrowr!

Also, the late, lamented Viktor Tsoi, from the late perestroika-era Soviet rock group Kino. That boy feeds both my hankering for deep, sultry voices, and my hankering for nice cheekbones. What a twofer – too bad he’s dead. Damn those untimely car crashes!

:;sigh:: I’m sure there are more…

I’d love to swap CDs – but you’d probably end up in a big ol’ puddle of WTF? I listen to a lot of fairly bizarre stuff (African, Brazilian, jazz, etc.) I was digging the tape this morning, but also thinking, dayum, haven’t heard this much singing in English in … years.

Oh, and the song that inspired me to resurrect the thread was the gorgeous “Waiting in Vain” (sniff, sniff) from Medusa. The combo of her voice and the guitar on that just melts me.

BTW – you’ll let me know if you and the lovely jayjay venture into the big city, right? It would be fun to get together for coffee or a meal or something.

Gigi Dover

Only one I can think of that hasn’t already been mentioned: Alison Moyet, once of Yazoo/Yaz.

ISTR that little laughing bit at the beginning of Don’t Go has been sampled a few times since.

Sinead O’Connor’s voice makes me weak in the knees, and so does Mary J. Blige’s on certain songs.

However, the voice that makes me quiver is that of Leonard Cohen. He’s a poet and a gentleman with a voice of velvet.

Mary Cleere Haran

I don’t know if the spelling is right, but I melt when I hear Karen Perris, on Natalie Merchant’s Ophelia album ::::::::::sigh:::::::::::

oooooh yeah! I can’t believe I almost forgot about Alison! Loved Yaz and loved her solo stuff. ::::::::swoooon::::::::::::

I subscribed just to reply to this thread  (well, okay, that’s a flat out LIE!)

I find that Amy Lee of Evanescence makes the hair on my neck rise and tingles run down my spine. And not because she’s a mega-hottie (in my book). Her voice is angelic in my opinion, and her ability to really ‘sing it from the heart’ is awesome.

That going classical-to-ripping guitar riffs thing is cool, too.

Nick Cave singing “Into My Arms”

Wouldn’t mind your taste in music at all. I like to listen to alot of eclectic stuff too. Of course when we finally get to have some time in the big city, we would love to get together with you for a meal and some fun. Some live music perhaps? . Have you ever heard the duet that Kate and Annie did? A very interesting choice of songs for sure. I agree about “Waiting in Vain” too. Had about the same reaction when she sang that one too.
