The other night I went to see one of the coolest bands in the world - Yo La Tengo. Anyhow, at the beginning of their encore, they were taking requests from the crowd, and they actually played my request! (It was their cover of the Urinals song Black Hole). Lots of times I’ve called out songs that I wanted to hear, but this is the first time someone’s actually done it.
So to the poll - What song would you request from your favourite band, if you thought it would be played?
The rules are:
-
This is hypothetical, so it doesn’t matter if they still exist.
-
It would generally be a song that you wouldn’t be sure they would play, eg a b-side, or a lesser known album cut.
-
I was going to say that it had to be a song they had actually performed, but I’ll expand that to include any song they might have included. For example, the Beatles couldn’t have done a Prince cover, even if they wanted to (because he wasn’t around when they were), but it might work the other way around.

I’d like to hear Tori Amos’ version of Smells Like Teen Spirit live. She doesn’t play it much, and all the recordings of it are so good…
Lessee…
I’d LOVE to see Steve Vai play ‘Erotic Nightmares’
Or even he and that kid do ‘The Audience is Listening’
Slipknot doing a cover of “When Doves Cry” by Prince. Just one of those songs I could see being changed into a more heavy violent song.
Limp Bizkit covering “Natural Born Killers” by Ice Cube and Dr Dre. Has a good beat now we just need some distorted guitars.
Actually I would like to see Busta Rhymes perform his cover of Iron Man by Black Sabbath (no i’m not crazy check out Nativity in Black 2) Just to see Busta Rhymes going off over Iron Man would be worth it.
Rage Against The Machine covering “War” by Bob Marly, I’ve heard Sepeltura’s version (which is amazing) now I would like to see how Rage handles it.
Brittany Spears covering “closer” by NIN. I could handle her screaming “I want to f**k you like an animal”…now guys that is a good picture for your mind.
I hold no responsibility for what my depraved mind comes up with…it just won’t listen to reason.
I’d ask the three gentlemen from Toronto to play Cygnus X-1 (Book One: The Voyage) for me. Real loud.
OH! Easy one.
Billy Joel, “All for Layna”.
Love that song- seen him twice- no dice.
Jethro Tull doing ‘Baker Street Muse’, all 18 minutes of it.
I’d ask The Charlatans to play “Codine.”
Hmmm. I just found out there’s some boneheads out there who’ve started a new band called The Charlatans.
I don’t mean THOSE charlatan Charlatans. I’m talking about the north California band from the mid- to late-1960s.
Hey, this is my first post! I’ve been lurking around here awhile, and I knew it was time to jump in when a thread starts by mentioning my favorite band from Hoboken – YLT.
That said, how could you resist hearing Morrissey doing “Shiny Happy People” by REM? I wonder if his audience would embrace that or try to kill him . . .
Welcome Double-P.
And may I say it takes a twisted and demented mind to think up that kind of song/singer combo.
I think you’ll fit right it among this sick bunch.
