My wife does have problems with aspartame, but not with splenda, similar problems to those you have mentioned (now that I’ve been corrected :smack: ), which also addresses slortar’s comment.
I have my issues with the lack of caffeine as stated above. I found out about the no caffeine issue due to the wife’s issue with aspartame, and purchasing alternative soda products for her.
Diet Coke with Splenda? Where is this stuff? Where, for the love of God, where??!?!!
Oh–so, in answer to your question, Diet Rite is the only one I’ve tried. Not bad, but I like (a) caffeine now and then (esp. on long car trips at night, which I often take) (b) more carbonation–for some reason, Diet Rite seems undercarbonated when compared to other sodas.
I like the Diet Rite. The regular cola flavor is my standard drink, but I really like the red raspberry for a change. I find the peach to be overly sweet (like Rushgeekgirl does) Other Diet Rite flavors I’ve been able to find occasionally are :strawberry-kiwi, white grape, and tangerine. All of them are pretty good.
I haven’t seen the splenda Coke yet in my market, but I will sure try it when I do find it.
OK. Believe it or not, Diet Coke with Splenda and the revamped Pepsi One both arrived at my local convenience store this morning. Tried both … don’t like Pepsi One (again … didn’t like it before they worked Splenda into it). DCwS is definitely the clear winner, even over Diet Rite.
Still a faint mediciney aftertaste. Might be the Acesulfame K. Why the hell do they even use that stuff, if they have Splenda? Do they have stockpiles to use up? Does the Splenda branding cost so much right now that they need to supplement it with a generic sweetener?
All in all, though, I think I might still prefer Diet Dr Pepper to DCwS. I just like a little something else added to my cola.
I tried DCwS today after reading this thread. This is the BEST diet pop (soda) I’ve ever had. The aftetaste is still there but I think its pretty easy to ignore.
Drinking Diet Dr Pepper now, after drinking DCwS … discovered an interesting phenomenon: DCwS is so sweet-tasting to me, that I drink one, stop, and have to drink water for a long time. Diet Dr Pepper seems so mellow and less-sweet that I, unfortunately, tend to drink it all day.
I’m going to have to consider my soda strategy carefully. Do I have one DCwS and OD on sweetness (so I switch to water afterward)? Or do I stay on the all-day Dr Pepper …
