4 is not a prime number
4–the only not prime number
What Child is This?
Ding Dong Merrily On High
O Come All Ye Faithful
Silent Night
I guess this is the problem with lists like this; you can find a thousand exclusionaries. Mays is the only living one; Puckett is the only one not to win an MVP Award. And yet neither was what I was going for. I think we need to add hints.
Hint: “Honors and Awards.” (And it’s not the MVP Award thing.)
OK, here’s the hint: “Names.” And it’s not the ends-in-an-A thing.
Canada was the only one named by picking letters out of a hat.
Uh, no, that’s was it.
Ding Dong Merrily on High? Cuz it’s the only one that I’ve never heard of.
Pumyra
Lion-o
Panthro
Cheetara
Tygra
Hint: It’s not the pattern. It should leap out to any Thundercats fan.
Willa
Berbil Bill
Dr. Dometome
Turmagar
Captain Crackers
Hint: Home. I doubt any non-Thundercats fan will get this. But you’re throwing in sports, I can include my own geekdom. =^_^=
Ocelot, as it’s the only one with three sylables, and don’t let any Jag-war loving Brit tell you otherwise!
One of my favorite radio shows, Says You!, does questions like this sometimes. Here’s two I submitted, but he hasn’t used (yet).
George Lazenby
Pope Pius XII
Hugh Downs
Benjamin Harrison
Polyester
Centipede
Two-by-four
Dark side of the moon
(Two possible answers for this, neither one easy, I hope.)
Dark side of the moon is the only one where multiples are not inherent in the name. Also, a best selling album. Also, multiple words not connected with hyphens.
Not even close, right?
This should be easy:
Trick
Rotten
Asphalt
Toilet
These are impossible. The heck with it, I’ll give you the answers.
Doby is the only name here who wasn’t elected to the Hall of Fame by a writers’ vote. He was selected by the Veterans’ Committee.
The hint was “names.” Canada is the only country on this list whose official name is in this list. France is technically “Republic of France,” China “People’s Republic of China,” and India “Republic of India.” Canada is, officially, “Canada.”
In each case, the “Nation” in “National” meant the USA, except the National Hockey League, which was originally entirely in Canada.
Pumyra was the only one not introduced in the first season.
Going back to comic books…
Supreme
Apollo
Samaritan
Marvelman
I was thinking Doby, but because he was the only one ever to manage a major-league club.
The National Football League
The National League of Professional Baseball Clubs
The National Hockey League
The National Basketball Association
(and no, it’s not that one is called an association.)
In each case, the “Nation” in “National” meant the USA, except the National Hockey League, which was originally entirely in Canada.
I also considered the Canadian angle, but came up with the NFL, since it was the only listed league never to have a franchise based in your country.
tdn: “Rotten” is an adjective (except as Johnny’s last name), while the other words in your list are all common (as opposed to proper) nouns.
Pumyra was the only one not introduced in the first season.

Supreme

Samaritan
Marvelman
Correct. She, Bengali, and Lynx-o showed up as hostages in ‘Thundercats, Ho!’ before be inducted as full-fledged Thundercats.
Marvelman - the only one not based on Superman, being based on Captain Marvel instead.
Grrr, I want to do a Quantum Leap one, but I don’t have the discs with me. Um…
Deadpool
Batman
Superman
Wonder Woman
Phoenix
Hint: Phoenix should make the connection easy.
Deadpool
Batman
Superman
Wonder Woman
PhoenixHint: Phoenix should make the connection easy.
I can see several here:
Deadpool - the only costumed identity not used by multiple people (Batman has been used by Bruce Wayne, Jean Paul Valley, and Dick Grayson, Superman by Kal-el/Clark Kent, the Eradicator, Hank Henshaw, and the Kid/Kon-el/Connor Kent, Wonder Woman by Princess Diana, Artemis, Donna Troy and Cerce (and Cassie Sandsmark, in a potential future), and Phoenix by Jean Grey, Rachel Grey, and Rachel Summers, who, IIRC, is different from Rachel Grey).
Phoenix - the only one without an equivalent character in The Other Company (Deadpool has Deathstroke the Terminator (and the unnamed Anti-matter version of same), Batman has Nighthawk (and Hawk-Owl), Superman has Hyperion (and Sentry), Wonder Woman has Power Princess).
Phoenix again, as the only one with extrinsically granted powers.
Batman as the only non-powered character.
Batman, again, as the only one who’s human within their universe’s classification.
Any of these the one you’re going for? <_<
(And you’re correct on Marvelman.)
Oh, and going back to Green Arrow, Robin, Superman and Speedy, I have another odd-man out for that one - Speedy’s the only one where at least one bearer of the name hasn’t died and come back to life.
tdn: “Rotten” is an adjective (except as Johnny’s last name), while the other words in your list are all common (as opposed to proper) nouns.
True, true. But not the answer I was looking for.
Hint: In this case, Rotten is not an adjective.
Chartreuse
Jade
Kelly
Lime
Olive
Teal

You missed it unless I’m wrong: Batman’s never died. I was sure Ms. ‘I’m dead, I’m alive’ would be a give away. shrug You are obviously the bigger comics geek and I bow to your superior knowledge. =^.^=
And nobody’s going to try my second Thundercats one?
Willa
Berbil Bill
Dr. Dometome
Turmagar
Captain Crackers
Hint: Home. I doubt any non-Thundercats fan will get this.
Captain Crackers was the only one not from Third Earth.
Alright, some more Thundercats
Cheetara
Tygra
Panthro
Alluro
Hint: Tygra’s connection comes from The Anoinment Trials and was never seen again.
Jaga
Grune
Torr
Claudus
Hint: It’s not based on evil or age.
Grune
Lynxana
Captain Shiner
Pumm-ra
Hint: Canon-ness
Chartreuse
Jade
Kelly
Lime
Olive
Teal
Traditionally, chartreuse is a shade of yellow, not green.
Cougar
Puma
Jaguar
Mountain Lion
Panther
You missed it unless I’m wrong: Batman’s never died. I was sure Ms. ‘I’m dead, I’m alive’ would be a give away.
Batman’s died, although, unlike Superman and Wonder Woman, he only did it once, and didn’t stay that way long (during the Obsidian Age arc of Kelly’s run on JLA - the entire roster of the JLA at the time died). (Also, Earth-2 Batman died - and stayed dead - but going to alternate earths is dirty pool in this case.)
On the legacy character note…
Nightwing
Green Lantern
Flash
Wildcat
Dr Light
Speedy
(I can see two valid answers to this one, bonus points for guessing both.)
And a little bit more obscure…maybe:
Spider-Girl
Chameleon
Captain Marvel
Sandman
Cyclone
Iceman
Cougar
Puma
Jaguar
Mountain Lion
Panther
Jaguar is the only one that isn’t a name for Puma concolor
