So let’s say you’re using a public toilet, and there are two toilet paper rolls, exposed, no locks or offset rolls or any kind of gadgets to discourage you from actually using toilet paper - just two rolls sitting there waiting for you choose one.
Which one do you go for? The closest? The fullest? The whitest? The less-textured roll? Choose the one with the New York Times crossword puzzle print? Scratch the whole toilet paper thing and fling feces at the passers-by until they give you peanuts?
The less full. I was of the understanding that the dual roll system was designed so that there should ideally never be a time where a stall has no TP. You’re meant to use the less full one until it’s empty and then switch to the backup while the janitors replace the empty one. Using the fuller one defeats the purpose of this and can lead to both emptying at the same time.
Having been the guy who restocks the rolls, I use the smaller roll. We had one men’s room that was so busy, it had two double-roll dispensers in each stall.
