Which would you choose - between two trips?

My friend and I have been friends for 15 years. She, being way more sentimental than me, wants to celebrate our 15th anniversary of friendship, I figured a nice dinner in a fancy restaurant, somewhere out of the ordinary. But then she announces to me that her husband will pay for plane tickets for wherever we want to go (and she’s giving me first choice). Of course my first reaction is, YEAH! I’m going to Australia but then realized that we have between 7 and 10 days for the trip so can’t go that far!

My first choice of destination that was feasible was Buenos Aires (since I’m learning Spanish, thought it’d nice) but she basically shot it down and offered two choices:

The Tuscany wine route or the Greek Islands.

Of course I’m interested in both. Which sounds more appealing. I’m paying for the trip itself but the plane ticket is paid for.

Which would you choose and why? I need help making my mind up.

Thanks

These sound like some truly sweet people.

Do you have any more info? Any cites? Photos, maps, etc.?

Both sound spectacular, but I’m especially interested in the Tuscany one. I’ve been thinking about what to do with my wife for our 30th anniversary next year and this sounds intriguing.

Personally, I’d probably choose the Greek trip, but that’s only because I’ve been to Italy a couple of times and never to Greece. That aside, I guess it would just come down to whatever you prefer: the sun and islands of Greece or the picturesque hill towns of Tuscany. I really like Italy, so I might actually prefer that one. Especially if there might be any chance of being seen in a bathing suit in Greece.

I’d prolly do the Greek Island thing. Lots of historical stuff to see, maybe some fishing too.

I’m actually thinking about Greece, including some islands, for our next trip. I’ve been to Tuscany, and I don’t care about wine that much. But if you’re into wine and have never been to Tuscany, it’s a tough choice.

I think once you get there, Greece (depending on the exact areas where you will be staying) might be quite a bit less expensive than Tuscany will be…

(as a aside, Buenos Aries would have been my pick of the three also)

I’ve heard from friends that Italy is nicer than Greece.

I can vouch for Tuscany. The food and wine and the feeling that you’re stepping back in time (which you are, sort of) is unbeatable.

Tuscany can be beautiful, but it is a very popular destination and you may end up with either a bit of a crowd at the places you might want to sight see/slurp wine at … Greece can be very beautiful, but again, certain islands are popular destinations and may be a bit crowded …

I think I would go for tuscany, as if where you want to go is crowded, it is easier to divert elsewhere without trying to get a boat/coordinate ferry schedules and change reservations. In tuscany you can just drive a bit further …

I would go to Svalbard. You can forget all your cares, and dance with the Polar Bears.

Go to some place unsual. Everybody goes to Paris or the Greece Islands. Remember the 80s song by Charlene “I’ve been to Nice and the Isles of Greece while, I’ve sipped champagne on a yacht.” She didn’t like it.

How about the north slope of Alaska? Or got to Manaus in the middle of Brazil.

Or as Jo Stafford said “See the marketplace in old Algeris.”

You could go to Moscow and see Lenin if he’s still there. I mean you probably know a lot of people who’ve seen London, how many people have seen a reconstructed Communist.

A direct flight from LA to Aukland, NZ or Syndey Australia takes about 18 hours. So you wouldn’t have a lot of time, but it might be worthwhile.

I don’t know if I could stand 18 hours on a place in one shot

But you should go some place, that isn’t common.

Hmm…Italy or Greece.
I have been to both, and loved them both.
Hard choice.

I guess if you have never been to either, I would probably take the Italian trip - simply because you don’t really have to go far once you are there. Assuming you are not taking one of those godawful 10 cities in 10 days bus trips or something, you only need to park your butt in one small village and hit the local restaurants and tavernas. Maybe rent a car and do some local day trips.

Granted, you can do the exact same thing in Greece, but you might need to travel from one island to the next, and that will eat into your time where you should just be soaking up the sun and local flavor.

Still - talk about win/win situation; both would be wonderful trips and no matter which you finally choose, you will most certainly not regret it!
