White coffee? Is this an Irish thing?

Growing up in NZ, “Coffee” meant “Coffee with milk and two sugars”- so unless you specifically asked for it “Black”, you’d get coffee with milk and two teaspoons of sugar.

Creamer was absolutely unheard of (and even now, living in Australia, I’ve yet to see Half n’ Half or Creamer in the supermarket, and the idea of putting cream in your coffee seems vaguely… odd, in a way most people can’t quite figure out), and, when I left NZ in 2000, there weren’t even any Starbucks in the South Island!
