Actually the claim that they have WMD and would be able to use them within hours is the actual lie. The claim that Saddam had ties to Al qaeda or that he had anything to do with 9/11 is a lie as well.

Before the war Powell did his lil UN presentation, and pointed out actual sites believed to have wmds. What happened to those sites? Wouldn’t that be the first fucking place they would send someone? :rolleyes: Let’s assume he had the capability to launch chemical weapons within a short period of time, which would constitute an imminent threat to most rational people. Having this capability would mean that now or at one time the following evidence existed.
The raw materials for weapons and artillery.
A factory to build the weapons.
A factory that built machinery for the weapons factory.
Labs for the chemical agents for the WMD
Logistical support for the WMD (transport trucks, launch pads)
Places to store the WMD
I’m sure I’m missing some, but the point is, do you really think that SH could have destroyed these things (WHEN ONE OF THE MOST ADVANCED…) right before the war, and eliminated all traces of their existence? There would be evidence of the destruction such as the tools used to destroy the weapons, and the tools used to to cover up the existence of the tools used to destroy the weapons.

So they haven’t found any WMD, but the country is better off without SH in power. Well that’s all nice and good, BUT THAT’S NOT THE FUCKING REASON WE WENT IN! A lot of places would be better off without asshole tinpot dictators, but the REASON that everyone should be pissed off, is we went in for ONE purpose alone, and that was to liberate US from the threat of WMD, not to liberate Iraqis from Saddam Hussein.

We have evidence of rape rooms, and torture chambers, and death camps. We need to take him out right now. Now after we go in, we find there weren’t any torture chambers, or rape rooms, and the level of slaughter was far far less then we had thought. We do happen to find a few chemical missiles and perhaps even a weapons program. So Bush says “see this guy is an asshole, he had biological weapons, he was a threat to his people. The world should be happy that we took him out because he was going to kill scores of his own citizens.” Is this a stupid example? Sure, but the point is ***STICK TO THE ORIGINAL STORY.

The invasion of IRAQ (note the different spelling… it’s a different country. They don’t even share a border) was of no relevance to the 9/11 attacks, which you know full well. It was no more a response to 9/11 than invading Tahiti would have been.
So again I go back to the simple fact that you’re presenting a false dillemma. It’s a lie to claim the invasion of Iraq was in any way necessitated by 9/11; Iraq had no more to do with that act than Sweden did.

Yup, Saddam had nothing too do with 9/11 as best we know but yup, 9/11 did necessitate his demise.
9/11 woke the administration up to the notion that US.plc couldn’t rely on the Saudis right now (as opposed to some abstracted point in the future) to oil the capitalist works. It had to realign itself in the region, pronto - and even, heaven forbid, develop an actual foreign policy rather than getting the boys round to watch the Cowboys game.
Which was handy as the Cheney Report also required that US.plc both acquire more resources for the future and diversify away from reliance on Saudi now, never mind 2020 when 2/3 of US oil will have to be imported.
So 9/11 was responsible, in that sense, for the acquisition of Iraq.
