“C-I-L-L my landlord!”
I’m not presuming to speak for pizzabrat but, hey, she says it right here-- She’s not complaining about the commedian. She’s pointing out to all those who whine about the presumed double standard that blacks can joke about whites but not vice verse that it just ain’t true.
Again, since it seems many in this thread are having reading comprehension problems:
and
Now spooje, SPOOFE, Pucky and samarm would you like to try again?
That is also how I took pizzabrat’s post.
I don’t think this was at all significant. Comic Groove is a showcase for racial comedy, which usually means black comedians making fun of both whites and blacks. It’s what the audience expects. So what if they included one white guy in the lineup? Racial comedy was the expectation for the show. Put the same guy and the same jokes on Premium Blend, and you got yourself a scandal.
Actually, I’m glad athelas has been posting in the race threads. Single-handedly he put to rest the stereotype that all Asians are smart even as he was trying to do the opposite. And by broadcasting his pathetic ignorance in both the BH and Model Minority threads, he made it apparent to the masses why “Black history” (put in quotes because it really is American history) should be studied.

I keep hearing this claim being made ad nauseum, but have yet to see any evidence backing it up. What “scandals” have ever erupted over white comics taking jabs at blacks? Every time I watch SNL, blacks are being made fun of. Sure, most of the time black actors are acting out the humor, but white writers are the ones making the scripts. And as we all know, Comedy Central loooves SNL. If I have to see Tracy Morgan put on another black-rapper-pimp-thug-modern day minstrel show, I’m gonna throttle Loren Michaels.
They’ve upped the ante on their “What-if” machines, pizzabrat. Surprise, surprise.
Or see him dressed up in drag in impersonation of every black female celebrity! And not even do a good job at it either!
What are you talking about? His impersonation of Starr Jones is dead on!
I love that man.
Your not dissin’ Brian Fellow are you monstro? No you isn’t! That’s CRAZY!
I’m BRIAN FELLOWS!
Gosh, I’m so white that my nickname in school was “white girl”, but I was offered full-tuition scholarships to two competitive schools due to my academic performance and involvement with various activities and volunteer programs. If those merit-based scholarships hadn’t been worth so much I’d have been given a nice need-based financial aid package too, because my family is, to put it nicely, lower-income. I’ve never heard of a white person with a similar background having a different experience. Are you the exception, or is your “problem” really that your grades were mediocre, you did little in the way of worthy extra-curricular activities, and your family was middle-income?
In regards to the OP, I (like Biggirl) took the point to be that although angry white guys often complain that no one questions the terrible discrimination, abuse, and ridicule they suffer at the hands of racial/ethnic minorities but if the tables were turned there would be massive outrage from people of all colors, this just isn’t true. First of all, these angry white guys, if no one else, gripe about their so-called suffering all the time. I’ve seen some actually say things like “No one complains that there aren’t special scholarships for whites!”, apparently not realizing that this cannot possibly be true since they are complaining about that very thing themselves. Secondly, discrimination, abuse, and ridicule targeted at racial/ethnic minorities is often not met with outrage, certainly not outrage on a wide scale or from people outside the targeted group.
Something about this sentence structure tells me that it wasn’t your skin color that kept you out of scholarship contention.
And I’m whiter than snow and got a partial scholarship for four years of college.
Sure. Maybe I’ll get an answer this time.
Did he make jokes only about blacks? Did he joke about whites?
If I understand your premise, you are saying that a single example that was so unprecedented that you were compelled to comment on it can therefore be held up as the rule and not the exception.
I’m truly curious: Do you guys really find yourselves offended when black comics poke fun at white folks? Or are you just angry because black comics can say “cracker” jokingly but whites can’t go there with “nigger”?
Does this all stem from a deep-seated desire to brandish the word “nigger” unabashedly?
I’m truly curious.
giraffe, hon, I declare your rather astute remarks put me in a fit of the giggles. Thank you. I needed that today. [sigh] Now it’s back to the grind.
Carry on.
At least pizzabrat has provided proof that no one gets upset when white comedians make fun of black people. The people who insist–and with such vehemence, I might add–that there would be trouble have provided no such proof.
Her case may very well be an “exception”, but there’s no way to know this unless people provide examples that substantiate this claim.
monstros, I can’t help it. I’ve been thinking about you in drag all morning !! Surely you would put these other guys to shame !!!
I live to make people happy, one obnoxious remark at a time.
Exactly. How can this be merely an “exception” when the rule existed only in speculation in the first place? There was never a rule, only a hypothesis, and this proved the hypothesis wrong. BTW, I’m a he (is there a way to change our names? I initially just threw two irrelevant words together and now I’m ready to give my moniker a bit more thought ).
