I have a Whirlpool mod GB2FHDXWQ02 refrigerator with ice maker. I am getting what looks like white plastic particles in ice cubes. This refrigerator came with a house I bought but the ice maker was never hooked up until I did so. I put an inline water filter as well. If I melt a glass of ice cubes I can see white particles floating around and settling to the bottom of the glass. If I take a water sample from the line before it goes into the refrigerator (after it passes through the filter) there are no white particles. So I am concluding the particles are coming from somewhere inside the refrigerator or ice maker. I have made 8 or 10 full containers of ice and this is not going away. I have researched some and found this seems to be common, but I have not really found out why. Could someone please share ideas as to why this might be happening? Thanks in advance.
Little bits of plastic somewhere in the mechanism from the manufacturing process or from something the previous owner put in the freezer, or something in the mechanism is scraping new bits of plastic off. I’d think left over bits would have cleared by now, but maybe it could take a little while longer. If it’s scraping I don’t think there’s much you can do except replace the icemaking unit, but perhaps they are repairable.
