White rice consumption and BMI in Asia?

The guideline “Things your grandma would have made” is fine for a shorthand of “possibly better for you”. That is not my point. My point is that using the word “processed” as shorthand for “unhealthy” is disingenuous, especially when used, like it was above, to indicate the sinister presence of mysterious chemicals and mechanical processes.

It’s the same as scaring people with terms like “radiation” or “genetically modified” or “toxin” or any other terms used more for scare value than their informational content.

And secondly, I don’t believe that we should dumb things down for people who are simply too lazy to do any reading whatsoever – if they are interested in eating healthy, they obviously possess the initiative to do a little research and alter their diet, instead of being scared into it by inappropriately weighted terms promulgated by those who are just as uninformed and who don’t care.
