thanks G Nome for the right spelling.
I am not going to address the Greco-Roman stuff. Or the man boy love stuff.
How much Plato and Socrates have you read anyway?
Hmmm…well, actually, togas look pretty comfy to me.
Unfortunately, if I were to dress like my roots, it would include a babushka.
Well if it’s any consolation, I thought this thread might be about potatoes.
Here I was thinking gardening, myself.
Oh, mine hail from the Isle of Man, among other places.
Primaflora says: G Nome lives in a parallel universe, somewhere far far away from reality as we know it.
I say: And in this universe names like yours are an automatic reminder of feminine hygiene products.
Primaflora also asks: How much Plato and Socrates have you read anyway?
A: I know not to sit with my back to the entrance of a cave, maybe a little more. Incidentally, as it turns out, I’m violently anti-racist and it’s about time I stopped trying to be misunderstood and killed by people of colour.
Is anyone going to answer my question about the conformist hairstyles required by older women or am I going to have to start another thread? The amount of money spent on perming solution by the women of the 20th century would probably finance half a dozen Mars missions. Short and curly over 50 for European/Western women seems to be a fascistic demand. Older men are not required to imitate Rex Reed (I think this is who I mean) from the Brady Bunch, to gain societal acceptance. Could I add here that I knowingly confused, all the way through this thread, the terms European, Western, Judaeo-Christian, whatever. I’m lazy.
The fact that women over fifty often opt for short, curly hair implies a fascistic demand? Could you, for the love of the Invisible Pink Unicorn, elaborate on that? Is this another of your conspiracy theories?
HUH?
I’ve read it a few times, and I don’t get it. Could you rephrase that for me? To me it reads that you are very anti-racist, but up to now have been intentionally trying to be misunderstood by “people of colour”. I really, really don’t get it.
Judging by the success of all these huge Mars missions, I’d say the money is just as well spent on curly hair, BTW. Although I fail to see the connection between the two, unlike you, apparently.
Hmmm…maybe people just do their hair that way because they like it?
It’s called fashion. Trends. The “style”, La mode, if you will.
One hundred years ago, women wore their hair up in poofy styles with poodle bangs. In the 20s, girls had their hair bobbed with the Castle Clip and the Marcelle Waves.
Obviously, you’ve never even studied the history of fashion, G. Nome.
Yeah, I guess the crinoline, the bustle, the corset, the frock coat, the beaver hat, the hobble skirt, the shirtwaist, the cloche hat and the middy blouse…they were all “fascist” too, I suppose.
If the hobble skirt wasn’t a tool of the fascists, I don’t know what was. Didn’t Mussolini wear a hobble skirt? If he didn’t, he should have. That would have made the whole war much more light hearted and gay.
Oh yes. Hitler was more fond of the bustle, and he adored long flowy tea gowns for casual days.
I always thought that older women seem to have shorter hairstyles these days because
-
It’s easier- takes less time to blow dry it, comb it, etc.
More woman have less time now to groom themselves so meticulously as they did in the days where all they had to do all day was brush their hair and make tapestries. -
When women get older, like men- their hair sometimes just ain’t what it used to be- it is thinner, more brittle, and just doesn’t look so hot draping down your back.
The permed, short haircut just takes less time and looks better than it does long when it is thin.
This thread doesn’t really belong here… This forum is reserved for questions that make sense, and this one still doesn’t, despite the valient attempts of the Dopers to make sense of it. Problem is, it doesn’t really belong anywhere else on this board, either, so I’m just going to close it.
