I like how he implied that Trump is a carnival barker.
NPR reported that he requested it this week and it arrived yesterday.
I think he did primarily release it now for the reason stated. It is a distraction from serious issues. Yesterday, CNN’s Ed Henry asked White House Press Secretary Jay Carney a birther question. For anyone reasonable, it puts the issue to rest. For anyone else, it forces them to take on an even more precarious position.
I think if he were releasing it for primarily political reasons, then there would be a better time (others have suggested a few).
Obama released it because he was envious of all the coverage Will&Kate were getting.
Could be worse, he could have asked the reporters to “Watch this drive” or gone brush clearing.
Again, I think this was a great move. The ones who move the goalposts, or focus on the “African” box, are on the fringe. Also, it makes Corsi’s “book” obsolete before it’s published.
Awesome!
Nothing will convince the birthers. If God came down form Heaven, and announced that President Obama was born in the United States, they would become atheists.
No because he (rightly) gently chastized the nation/media for caring about this, and then hopped on a plane to go do some completely fluff media piece.
That’s a dumb move if you’re trying to repair your image.
He’s not trying to repair his image, and the one has nothing to do with the other. The Oprah appearance is part of his re-election campaign.
And it sets a precedent that I think should be in the Constitution: In order to be elected president, a candidate must personally prove that the sitting president is ineligible to serve. Think of the fun. Maybe in the not too distant future we will be able to watch candidates battle it out in a cage match, the way God intended us to pick leaders.

Queen Birther Orly Taitz has her doubts still…
Didn’t he just claim two days ago that the birth certificate was missing?
Yes. And don’t forget that he had investigators combing the state of Hawaii who were finding lots of interesting things. But we knew he wasn’t a serious candidate- didn’t we?
You can not hold Trump responsible today for what he said yesterday. They are different days . We start over everyday in Trumpland.
For those of you wondering whether this will quiet the birthers…it won’t.
Here’s a list of other conspiracy theories they’ll be flogging:
I agree. Obama would love to run against a multiply-married multiply-bankrupted buffoon who is already a joke and who most people despise. Unlikely to be sure, but I’m not one to underestimate the stupidity of the Republican voter. But the more rich idiots in the race, the better.
I guess it’s a good thing he’s not trying to repair his image, then.
Just based on a quick perusal of the comments posted after online versions of the story, the Birthers are slamming Obama for wasting all those “millions” he spent hiding his birth certificate for the past 2 years. So all this has done is to make him a spendthrift, in addition to being a fraud and a usurper.
That would make sense. And even if that wasn’t the plan, it looks extremely embarrassing for Corsi.
We have a birther or two on here, don’t we? Can we get them to pop in here and give their input?
If God came down from Heaven and announced Obama was born in the US, birthers would ask for His long-form birth certificate.
Could we get a list of media appearances the President can make that are not “fluff” in your opinion? Oprah is out, what about the Today show? Network evening news? Is three minutes with Katie between 6:30 and 7:00 eastern too fluffy?
What would make you happy? Should he take some vacation time? Maybe fly out to his showplace ranch and do some cowboy stuff?
Or maybe the President should use the bully pulpit to push his agenda, the agenda a majority of the people in this country elected him to push, and counter the agenda of those who would oppose his policies? That is to say - do what presidents do. Or is it just that it is Oprah that bugs you?
re: the birth certifcate. Everybody wonders why now, and some think it is misstep by Obama. I suspect that those people are wrong. Obama has shown himself to be a master of judging when something is important and then playing the waiting game while others tire themselves out. Recent polling tended to indicate that the birther issue was pretty well at its peak, with real candidates pulling away and only the Donald pushing it. Now - boom. If you insist on pushing the birth issue anymore you look even crazier before AND you look crazy for pushing the college thing or whatever. Plus, and I think this is the real genius here, the non-loony conversation now has to move back to the real issues.
And when you get Republicans talking about the real issues, they sound awful. Cut medicare, but give subsidies to petroleum companies (and just wait until we see their profit statements!). NPR ran a story this morning about a Paul Ryan town hall where he was getting booed by the people who put him in office, people were actually asking why taxes were not being raised.
Obama can run against economic policies like that, what he can say to crazy-ass birther stories? Which campaign do you think he wants to run: hey I am fighting for the average person against corporate interests, or hey I really was born in Hawaii. Its the correct way to beat the swiftboaters.
