I’m watching Donald Trump’s press conference on the matter. He’s implying that the certificate may be fake, and his education is still possibly fabricated. But he’s just asking questions, so that’s ok.
It just shows what an incompetent executive he is. With all the resources of the federal government it took him three years to produce a simple forged document and to bribe/blackmail the necessary people.

He could have waited until further in the election cycle, although I suppose it cuts Trump off at the knees a bit, and keeps all the GOP contenders at the same level. I would have thought letting Trump have more rope would have been preferable.

People either accept him as president, so it’s irrelevant, or they hate Obama and will believe this is just a doctored document. Some people really disappoint me with their ignorance and stubbornness.

Yeah, why would he want Trump culled from the herd now? He could have done so much more damage to the Republican brand. He should’ve let him keep talking until, say, January. Release the long form just in time for Iowa. That would’ve been sinfully delicious.

I have no doubt at all that the President is a “natural born citizen” and lawfully holds his current post, but releasing the certificate now will probably just lead to the birthers asking, “Why are we only seeing it now? Why did he hide it for so long?” In any event, I had understood from a recent CNN.com story that what had been released in 2008 was all that could be publicly released, and that Obama himself would’ve had to personally escort any doubters into the Hawaii state document vault to show them the original certificate. Guess that wasn’t so.
Of course, he’s an egomaniac. Plus it’s free advertising for his TV show (and apparently he’s started promoting his presidential campaign on the show as well), so it’s win-win for him whatever happens.

IIRC, Obama once claimed that his father fought in WWII. According to the Birth Certificate, his father was 25 in 1961, so that makes 9 yrs old at the conclusion of WWII.

Snopes on that issue. Briefly, his grandfather and uncle served in World War II. (Edited to add this article, in which he clarifies remarks about his uncle’s role in liberating a concentration camp.)
My money says that because the top of the form says “Certificate of Live Birth”, that it will still be unacceptable to the birthers. It won’t be accepted because it does not say “Birth Certificate” or “Birth Facts” or “Birth Record” or somesuch.
Huh. I just looked at my “long form” certificate this weekend, and I can’t even remember what the title on it was. Maybe I’m not a “real American” either! :eek:
