whitepages.com now has historical data

My friend moved recently, and got a new landline phone number. She’s been getting all sorts of calls for different people, one a Cindy that seems to be in a good deal of debt. The debt collectors claimed the phone company said this was Cindy’s number. That prompted me to reverse lookup my friend’s number on whitepages.com, thinking that might be where a debt collector would look. What was listed was the correct current information, but there was also three previous holders of that phone number, including the infamous Cindy. Why would they list the previous holder of a phone number, how is that going to help anyone?

I changed my name listed in the phone book a few years ago because I kept getting calls for my dad, who has the same name as me. In whitepages.com I now find two entries for me, my full name and the nickname that I changed it to. Weird thing is the full name entry has my new address when I haven’t been listed as that name since more than two years ago.

So, whitepages.com must have for some reason merged in old phone records.

Anyway, this is a PSA to advise Americans to visit whitepages.com to see if what’s there for you is acceptable. There’s a “remove me” me link at the bottom which I tried, I’ll see what happened.
