Annie Haslam and Alison Krauss are, IMNSHO, the best out there today.
Ofra Haza:

The Frecha* song (*roughly translates to whatever the current slang term is for the women on the Jersey Shore)
Some of her English songs:
You
Ya Ba Ye
Show Me
Some covers:
Open Your Heart
You’ve Got a Friend
OK, we hafta hear more about ths…
Huge fan of Audra McDonald since I first noticed her in the chorus of the revival of Carousel.
Love Brightman and Cheneworth since she played Sally in the Broadway production of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.
If you’re going to make a typo you may as well make an arse of yourself
I heard her singing Agnus Dei on Classic FM earlier and she sounded very much like Jackie Evancho, missed the anouncement at the end and had to check their listing.
She sings it with All Angels on Youtube but not solo.
Oh, ha, I guess I do know you, even though I don’t remember knowing you. From here at the Dope?
She’s been busy with other things in her life that are important to her (fostering & taking care of stray, sick and unwanted cats, farm living, and her job, which she loves) but the latest word from her best friend is that she’s thinking about recording another album. We’ll see.
Sir Prize, this is very short, but as an Ofra fan you might be interested in it.
Thanks Equipoise, I hadn’t heard that before.
I had the pleasure of seeing Ms. Netrebko just last weekend in Eugene Onegin at the Met.
Not my favorite opera, but she was great.
Later this season I’ll see Deborah Voigt in Wozzeck, which should be interesting, to say the least.
Other favorites I’ve seen in the last few years: Cecilia Bartoli, Diana Damrau, Hei-kyung Hong, Renee Fleming, and others.
But my favorite soprano has to be Elīna Garanča. At least today. Next week it will be someone different.
Sandy Denny, Eva Cassidy and, of course, the three Js: Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins and Joan Baez.
Well, my favorite soprano is a young woman I know in real life, with whom I’ve been in love for many years, but she has nothing I can link.
So I’ll mention my second favorite…
What? Only a picture? Yes, it helps that she’s possibly the most stunningly-beautiful woman in the world, but geez, ya gotta hear her sing:
(For the record, Simone is the lead singer of my favorite symphonic metal band, Epica)
She’s “only” a mezzo-soprano, bug god she’s good.
Okay, I just have to add Nightwish’s new singer, Floor Jansen:
My god, what a breathtaking performance! The incomparable Beverly Sills. I generally don’t care for opera singers singing pop, but I’m willing to make an exception here. I saw her perform many times over the years, in both the NYCO and the Met, and her performances were consistently inspiring.
Not to mention that she has classical training as well. I loved her in Bernstein’s “Candide”.
