Who Are the American Cardinals Attending the College of Cardinals Conclave?

Can someone provide a link or a list of names of the American Cardinals who will be participating in the election of the next Pope?

Also, is there an Archibishop of the United States of America?

There is no “Archbishop of the U.S.” because the U.S. is not an archdiocese; but the U.S. consists of many provinces (each one consisting of several dioceses), and generally, every province has one archdiocese, headed by an archbishop. See this list of American dioceses.

This page gives the following list of U.S. cardinals:

USA: Rigali, Justin Francis - Aged 69 *§
USA: George, Francis Eugene - Aged 68 *
USA: Egan, Edward Michael - Aged 73 *
USA: Stafford, James Francis - Aged 72 *
USA: McCarrick, Theodore Edgar - Aged 74 *
USA: Dulles, Avery - Aged 86
USA: Keeler, William Henry - Aged 74 *
USA: Szoka, Edmund Casimir - Aged 77 *
USA: Mahony, Roger Michael - Aged 69 *
USA: Baum, William Wakefield - Aged 78 *
USA: Bevilacqua, Anthony Joseph - Aged 81
USA: Law, Bernard Francis - Aged 73 *
USA: Maida, Adam Joseph - Aged 75 *

And all the people in the above list will be participating except for Cardinals Dulles and Bevilacqua.

I’ve actually met Cardinal Dulles on a few occasions, he’s getting frail but he’s sharp as a tack. He was one of my Mom’s lecturers at Fordham, right here in the Bronx.

aka “The Kid”

Cardinal Mahony will be easy to pick out as he’s really tall. He’s about 6’4"

Sure, the Cardinals list him at 6’4", but I hear he’s more like 6’1", and that really showed in his lack of rebounding against the Illini on Saturday.

I’ve stood next to him. He’s hard to post up.

There is a picture of several cardinals in the Financial Times today and Mahony must be standing next to a guy who is 5’3". Looks really weird.

Cardinal Stafford is the former Archbishop of the Denver Archdiocese and was very close to JPII. He hosted the Pope in the early 90’s for World Youth Day and did such a good job that JPII named him a cardinal shortly thereafter and brought him to the Vatican to be in charge of youth missions (or something like that).

He might even get a few token votes in the early rounds, but he as no chance to be elected, as an American.
