I am a fan of the new comic book series by Vertigo (a branch of DC comics) but I am wondering who the original Losers are. DC recently published a comic by the name New Frontier which is (by my interpretation anyways) what the DC universe would be like if it were in chronological order. The first chapter is the story of the Losers “A unique group of servicemen attached to the O.S.S.”. I’m just curious to know how old this comic was and what it was about. So far all I know from New Frontier is that the Losers are Capt. Storm U.S. Navy, ‘Sarge’ Peterson U.S.M.C., ‘Gunner’ Wilson U.S.M.C., John Cloud U.S.A.A.F., and a dog named Pooch.
The Losers are a group of miscellaneous DC WWII heroes, each of whom had a short-lived solo feature in the war comics for a while, later banded together as a team. Here is an article that will tell you more about the history of the team (on the bottom is a list of where the characters appeared as individuals and as the Losers) and specifically, about the story that was penned in 1985 to be their last hurrah - obviously not compatible with their last hurrah being a mission to Dinosaur Island, as in “New Frontier.”
