I’ve been strongly considering it lately. My Father is Methodist and my mother is Irish Catholic so i was raised christian(despite what Jack Chick says about the RCC). but i became disillusioned with organized christianity. I went through the obligitory dabblings in Taoism and Buddhism in College, and while i agreed with much of both it never really stuck. anyway, despite having heard of the UU for many years, i admit i had no idea what it was until i came upon these message boards. I found a church not far from me and have been meaning to check it out. I haven’t yet though.
Born and raised.
My church still has the plates from the “First Congregational Church,” but they broke off before my time.
There is a Christian oriented UU congregation in my area. I believe that they sorta broke off from my church, because they didn’t feel comfortable. I was never really sure hwta happened with that. There are a few folks in my congregation that will walk off if the speaker starts giving a heavily Christian oriented sermon (“Jesus” this, and “God” that.). A fair number of people have come to my church to get away from people telling them what they must believe, and more than a few will bristle when they feel that a guest speaker is headed in that direction.
