Who are the two other dudes with Boromir at the Council of Elrond?

I’ve coincidentally just been re-reading this section and Tom doesn’t specifically talk about the origins of the Bree-men. He says he made paths before the Big People (meaning Men in general) and saw the little People (Hobbits) arriving. He also advises the Hobbits to stay at the Prancing Pony their first night away from his house, but that is about it for Bree. He does describe the origin of the Rangers, although the Hobbits don’t know that at the time.

The origins of the Bree-men are mentioned in the book soon after in a general description of the lands around Bree, but I never got the impression this knowledge was obtained from Bombadil.

I just meant his physical description is similar to that of the Bree-men, and they claim to have dwelled in that spot before the men of Westernesse.

Oh, I get it. Sorry, I completely misunderstood what you were getting at.
I still have to disagree though. I don’t think Tom can be the first Man or Hobbit because he is obviously immortal. That alone indicates that in Tolkien’s cosmology he must be something else.

Well, I’ve got an answer for that, too, but I think I hijacked this thread long enough!
