They look quite practical, while still giving off that macho, don’t fuck with me attitude. Perfect for cops. Nitrile gloves don’t project the right aura of control.
Last night one of the alternate jurors who had sat through the entire three weeks of testimony was interviewed on the news. She still thought Chauvin had his hand in his pocket. She was just an alternate juror, but it was kind of disturbing to learn she was paying so little attention to the trial.
Considering how long it took to get wearing proper protective equipment to be accepted as normal in the workplace, by both workers and employers, I’m not going to quibble about them wanting it to “look cool”, if that’s what it takes to get them to wear it.
I grew up with a mother who was an operating room nurse, who occasionally regaled us with stories of people coming in to the hospital after getting fucked up on the job. Wearing some armor when needed isn’t a problem.
Was it actually brought up during the trial? We know for sure because we’ve seen sites that explain it, but I think jurors would have been instructed not to look at those things?
When I was in the Army, I worked some law enforcement-adjacent details. I wore tactical gloves. It wasn’t to look cool. It was to protect my hands.
Nitrile gloves also don’t give you any protection against sharps, and abrasive surfaces will shred them, and they rip distressingly easily under field conditions. They’re great in a lab or other controlled environment to protect against accidental splashes, which is what they were designed for. In the field, not so much.
Yes.
I don’t recall anyone in the trial mentioning the hand looking like it was in his pocket in that photograph. It was mentioned that he put the gloves on when arriving at the scene. From some of the body worn video that was shown, it can be seen that his gloved hand is resting on his upper thigh at times and lifted up at others. One of the lawyers implied Chauvin casually picked a pebble from the tire while holding down Floyd, but it was the ungloved hand of one of the other officers that did that.
I just thought it was interesting the photo that was widely publicized before the trial was so powerful that a juror was still convinced Chauvin’s hand was in his pocket rather than go by what was presented at the trial.
OK, fair enough. The case in question was a cop who was being abusive, so I was taking the gloves as a sign of hyperaggressiveness, but that’s probably not supported by the evidence.
Still, they should also come in pink
They do, and I see EMTs wearing all different colors.
Not those. Tactical gloves.
Cool. Now show me a male cop wearing them…
When I saw the video, I was ready to swear that twisted bastard was rubbing one out with his hand in his pocket. That has been debunked, Thank God! That thought was really sickening.
Just another case of me being so wrong, to make a right, I gotta go up a block and make three lefts. I’m used to it.
Get a room!
Hah!!! I’ll bet is was you all those years ago!!!
To the Lumberyard!
