So have I, and not just from fingers.
Fournier’s gangrene from an attempt at a home removal. Don’t use a steel bushing…
I don’t think we want to know from where else you cut off rings. Although I’m sure there are some good stories there (down there, I guess).
Let’s just say that a Baroque, Game of Thrones device hewn from 2 oz of Nickel seems like a great idea until it doesn’t.
and also, toe rings.
Really? Every toe ring I’ve ever seen isn’t a band, but a "C’ shape crimped mostly closed. Very adjustable, and necessary since toes aren’t shaped like fingers, but quite easy to remove since it’s basically pre-cut for you.
I can’t divulge a lot of details.
But general advice? If you do get a ring firmly stuck, and it isn’t on the finger, and things start seriously changing colour, don’t wait two days to go to the emergency room just because you are embarrassed.
Can confirm.
rings are different than piercings. Can one wear a ring anywhere other than a finger or a toe?

Yes…
FYI, here is Wikipedia’s article on the subject.
Best not to ask or Google for more information. Just saying…
Well, I shouldn’t have read any of this, because now I want to take MY cheapie gold wedding ring off of my ‘brown-and-serve-sausage’ of a finger. It’s not tight, but it’s on there good and I am having an anticipatory panic attack just thinking of trying to wrest it off.
I’m going to say that that’s good advice even if it’s in a finger. If things start changing color, get help ASAP.
I wonder if there is a phobia about this because I sometimes have slight bits of panic about my wedding ring. And, I have skinny fingers and almost always have no issues removing it (long hikes can cause my fingers to swell a bit and that is the only time I notice a slight issue).
Changing colour is a pretty late sign. If it feels tight you need to push the fingernail as described above.
I’ve never worn a ring for very long. If I had one on that wouldn’t come off I wouldn’t wait for anything else. I’d start using common methods to remove it and within a day or two I’d cut it even if my finger didn’t feel numb, change color, or hurt in any way. Yet I have known people that left on rings that they couldn’t remove for very long times without any great concern, and saying that it hurt and their finger was numb. I wouldn’t wait even an hour if it was stuck somewhere else alluded to in this thread.
Yeah, i take off any rings i might be wearing before bed every night. If a ring is hard to get off, i run my hand under cold water, and maybe apply some soap to the ring. If it doesn’t go on easily in the morning, i wait half an hour and try again. When i was pregnant (and my fingers remained swollen all day) i went ringless, even though people teased me about being an unwed mother-to-be.
Another tip from the ER; if you’ve hurt your hand, wrist or forearm, consider taking your rings off sooner rather than later. Burns, fractures, sprains can cause enough swelling that we have to cut a ring off a few hours later.
