Yes, I drink and I surf YouTube and I find offbeat music videos I like and compulsively share them here. It’s kind of a jazzy cover, not the bluesy/Bo Diddley style.
I liked that just fine — and then listened to some other Youtube stuff, including Stevie Ray doing Voodoo Chile (slight return) for 11 minutes.
If you like vintage style covers, check out Postmodern Jukebox.
Here’s a little more Elise LeGrow
Cover of Bill Withers “Ain’t No Sunshine”.
Thanks, bookmarked!
Up until recently I had never heard a bad cover of “Who Do You Love”.
Then I encountered The Misunderstood’s version. And now this jazz cover by Ms. LeGrow, which evokes something, but is not remotely as good as the original.
Oh well.
The song is meant to be a hard-edged menacing blues rocker.* Maybe no one can outdo Bo Diddley, but there have been excellent covers.
Tom Rush.
And possibly my favorite, the Rothrock version by George Thorogood.
*sometimes offbeat covers can work, other times they’re disasters. I just had a nightmarish thought of what would have emerged if Motörhead had recorded “Angel Of The Morning”.
I dislike it. I generally don’t have a problem with these novelty retro-covers. I mean, I don’t *like *them, but I don’t *dislike *them either. This one, though, I actively dislike.
Where do you stand on the Jesus and Mary Chain version?
Bolding mine.
Listening to it now. Honestly it doesn’t really do much for me. Vocals…eh, guitar tone…not impressive, overall vibe…yeah, it’s OK, not bad but not impressive. Different strokes and all.
By my personal taste the LeGrow version is better. Wait, let me listen again.
Still same reaction. YT went into another J&M song, April Skies, seems like Velvet Underground retread to me. We like what we like.
Jesus And Mary Chain, Who Do You Love
Eh, wonky link…
Jesus and Mary Chain, Who Do You Love, second attempt.
Listened to the JMC version about 5 times in a row now. Same result. Something odd going on, when I post a link it goes to whatever clickbait is at the bottom of my screen at the moment.
