I hate to abuse the SDMB, but I have seriously exhausted my “classroom” funds until my tax return. We’re trying to do a book project, but I can’t afford to cover all of it. I wanted to know which mod do I PM for permission to ask? I just really really want my kids to be able to do this. I’ve gladly thrown down $100 in the past for my kiddos, but I don’t have that option atm.
I am not saying that I am sure you are doing this, but I believe that getting access to an audience of decent, caring, helpful people–then unfolding upon them a sad sad crises story; complete with needy child, serious medical problem, and personal dilemma- could be used to take advantage of the goodwill of said audience.
I was holding back this idea this while reading your posts, as you had not yet come out with asking for donations. Also, it was their concern for you- that impressed me most about the dopers. I am in awe of their kindness, I just wondered if they might also be a little gullible.
Well, since my Amazon Class Wishlist (or booklist) clearly isn’t benefiting my personal life and Dopers here are pretty smart, we’ll let them decide. I easily spend too much on my students as is, but sometimes I just can’t.
This is ATMB. The OP asked a question about board procedure. If you want to discuss her or her plans, please start a new thread in the Pit, post in the current MPSIMS thread, or wait to see if she is given permission to start a thread asking for donations. This thread is not the place to do anything but discuss board procedure.
How would that work? The mods aren’t the DMV, the IRS, or the FBI. We do use our judgment in approving threads like these - if a newbie shows up tomorrow and asks for money, we’re much more likely to look askance at that request. But we’re not in a position to demand that someone turn over financial records or medical records or newspaper articles documenting their woes before they ask for assistance on the board. Dopers are encouraged to make up their own minds with regard to any kind of charitable appeal, same as with any other kind of thread.
