All white is a little too bland & all blinky is a little too Vegas. Anything in the middle is wonderful. Oh yeah, and an inflatable Homer Simpson is just a tad over the top unless he’s falling off the roof upside down.
I did see a new horror this year. It was a light string kind of like the icicle lights, a long strand with pendants every so often. But with a really bad “improvement”
In adition to the basic strand with lights every 6", every 18" there was a 12" snowflake hanging down on about 8-10" of cord. It looked like rows of giant ugly earrings hanging from the eaves.
The worst part was they are blue-white LEDs, so the have all the warm color of a cheap fluorescent shop light with the old cold-color tubes. You know, that hideous blue glow so heavy in UV your eyes hurt when you look at it. Just like that. And very, very bright. Fortunately it’s not near my house so I don’t have to look at it…
Somebody waaay up thread mentioned not liking the white lights because they’re too yellowish. To me that yellowish white is warm & cozy, while blue-sih white is cold & clinical. A jail or morgue is lit with that color, not a comfy house.
