This! So boring and unoriginal.
White lights are nice enough, I guess. If you’re into that sort of thing. Personally, I’m not. I just don’t feel like they have a lot of personality.
They’re the Martha Stewart of lighting–tasteful and refined and perfectly coordinated, but a little frosty and rigid and kind of bland. I prefer the multicolored lights. They’re more like Julia Child–maybe a little loud, maybe kind of tacky, but full of life and heart.
My dad still has some of those giant C9 colored bulbs from when I was a kid, and it makes me smile whenever he hauls them out. White or colored can each be nice, it’s all in how you use them.
Yes. This. Give me color.
Wait, so their religion is for white and blue LEDs, but against red and green and orange incandescents? I don’t get it.
Multicolored only. They just look Christmassy. The white lights, besides being bland and boring, look like something a restaurant with outdoor seating would hang on the patio fence in summer: i.e. no relation to the holidays.
You haven’t noticed blue and white being Hannukah-y colors? There’s no mandatory color scheme for Hannukah, but blue and white have been popular since they are the colors of the Israeli flag.
Plus, sometimes when Jewish kids feel left out because Christian kids are celebrating Christmas with lights and presents and decorations, it’s nice to be able to have some light strands outside on your house, too.
My folks have white lights on their tree, but that’s because my mom has collected a lot of red ornaments over the years, and the white lights contrast nicely with the red ornaments. We used to have multicolored lights when I was a kid, though.
Ah, okay. Thanks. Not many Jewish people around here, so I hadn’t made the connection.
