Who famously died while you were in utero?

JFK, CS Lewis and Aldous Huxley–all on the same day when Mommy was about 5 months along. I was born in March 1964.

I’d sure expect that in this case they checked before they put him in the box.

I mistyped the first name: and Walter Rudolf Hess did die in August 1973.

Most famously was John F. Kennedy.

These folks, up until Sep 1 (there was a week around my birthday where no one famous died, apparently.)

Of note, Laura Ingalls, Jack Ruby, Jayne Mansfield, Gus Grissom, and Dorothy Parker.

Oooh, what a cool thread idea!

Me: en utero ca. July 1966 - March 1967:
Lenny Bruce
Walt Disney
Margaret Sanger
Apollo One astronauts

A lot of people I never heard of, but were apparently of some renown as composers, etc. The only name I really recognized was Harry Selfridge, founder of Selfridge’s in London, who died about five days before I was born.

Not a whole lot of famous people for me. Notable being Stu Sutcliffe and Grandma Moses.

John Steinbeck
Helen Keller
Robert F Kennedy
Robert Leonard
Howard McNear (Floyd the barber)

ETA: Looks like I was conceived about three weeks after MLK Jr’s assassination.

Born Mid June 1967, so:

Walt Disney
Jack Ruby
Donald Campbell
Robert Van De Graaff
Gus Grissom
Robert Oppenheimer
Alice B. Toklas
Edward Hopper
Claude Rains
Dorothy Parker
Spencer Tracy

I have a pretty extensive list, but I’ll just name a few:

George Reeves
Billie Holiday
Lou Costello
Frank Lloyd Wright
Buddy Holly

King George VI
Curly Howard
A whole bunch of central/eastern European composers whose names I don’t recognize
And as near as I can tell, approximately 3,300 U.S. combat troops in the Korean War

Born 12/31/54, if I was concieved right at the end of March…

Auguste Lumiere

Alan Turing

James Hilton

Lionel Barrymore

Colette

Machine Gun Kelly

Moroni Olsen

Henri Matisse

Enrico Fermi

I’m not going to look for everyone who died during the nine months I was in the womb, but I do know that Elliot Ness died on the same day that I was born, May 16, 1957. I don’t know if he died before the minute I came into the world on that day or after it, though.

JFK.
And Lee Harvey Oswald.

Robert Ripley (Believe It Or Not)
Charles Ponzi, of the eponymous financial swindle
Victor Fleming, movie director
Margaret Mitchell, novelist (died the day before my birthday)
E L Thorndyke (psychologist)
Frank Murphy (supreme court justice)
A P Giannini (founder of Bank of America)

Of all of these, I would like least to be linked with Robert Ripley.

Aug 53-May 54:

Jonathan Wainwright (Allied commander in the Philippines after MacArthur’s departure)
Hugo Schmeisser (inventor of the StG 44 - but not of the MP 38 and MP 40, which are commonly called by his name)
Hans Fritzsche (one of the three high-ranking Nazis who were acquitted at Nuremberg)
Edwin Hubble (astronomer)
Eugene O’Neill (playwright)
Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (author)
Sydney Greenstreet (actor)
Heinz Guderian (general)

Died between July 1976 and April 1977:
Alastair Sim
Mao Tse-tung
Anaïs Nin

Allan Dulles, former director of the CIA
Boris Karloff, actor
Dwight D. Eisenhower, former president of the U.S.
Judy Garland, actress
Brian Jones, musician, formerly of the Rolling Stones
Sharon Tate, actress, and seven other murder victims of the Manson gang
Rocky Marciano, boxer
Ho Chi Minh, President of North Vietnam

An interesting question… I was born March of 1979… my list

Norman Rockwell
Keith Moon
Mother Maybelle Carter
Edgar Bergen
Ed Wood
Golda Meir
Sid Vicious (and Nancy Spungen, though not at the same time)
Nelson Rockefeller
Conrad Hilton
Ted Cassidy (Played Lurch on the Addams family)
