What famous person died on the exact day you were born? (Different years don’t count.)
This one’s a lot tougher than the other thread. The only famous person to die on my date of birth was Walter Bradford Cannon, a neurologist and physiologist who was *almost *awarded several Nobel Prizes.
According to Wikipedia, the only famous person to die on my birthday was Bill Woodfull, Australian cricketer. Sorry, Bill Woodfull fans, I have no idea who he was.
On the other hand, the Watts Riots in LA started on my birthday. That was a pretty big deal, so they tell me.
Nobody I’ve ever heard of- a couple very minor show biz figures (“third guy from left” type actors and a screenwriter with 2 credits, neither of them classics or anything like.). Walt Disney died (and was by legend plopped it in the deep freeze) when I was a few days old and he’s the closest big name deathdate to my birthdate.
It didn’t happen on my exact birthday, but my mother, who is obsessed with plane crashes, was pacing her apartment in labor with me when this happened. It distracted her until my father came home to take her to the hospital.
Bright and early the next morning, my mother was holding me and watching the news coverage. She still mentions it often when my birthday comes around. It was part of the Legend Of My Birth I heard growing up, along with there being an unusual icestorm in Oklahoma and my father having to scrape ice off his car so he could see to get my mom to the hospital.
Wow. Both Alexander the Great and Barbarossa died on my birth date.
On a much more personal level, my father’s father actually did die on the day I was born. I’ve often wondered how my father felt when he got the two messages that day: “Your father died early this morning”, and, hours later, “It’s a girl”.
Oddly enough, that’s my birthday as well. But you at least had an interesting year. Nobody in my year on Wikipedia. Pope Paul VI did have his funeral that day, though. How many people can say they were born during a sede vacante?
