I put “judging” in quotes because I’m asking about the televised portion that usually shows Simon, Kara, Randy and so forth. I know those are filmed later and the producers thinned out the group first.
Some auditions and filming must have occurred by now. Who is sitting behind the table for the TV cameras during these summer auditions?
I am by no means an expert on Idol but from what I understand, the first round of auditions is always done by producers who then cull the best and the worst to present to the real Judges for TV.

Who is sitting behind the table during these filmings, which must have occurred by now? I think they are usually about a week after the auditions, which started a few weeks ago. What “real Judges” are they using?
Last year, they used guests to fill in until Ellen came along. Now, it sounds like they are minus Simon, Ellen, and even Kara.
The filmings of the very best and the very worst don’t occur until ages after the cattle-calls.
