On one hand you have Cecil fighting the good fight since the 70’s through books and newspaper columns, on the other hand you’ve got the Teeming Millions pounding away furiously at their keyboards 24/7/365, taking on all comers since AOL was a thing.
Which entity has successfully fought more ignorance? Pretend you’re not biased!
And before one you wiseguys mentions alt.fan.cecil-adams, I decided that doesn’t count for either side.

A thousand SDMBers have of course, done more, combined, than Cecil.
SDMB. I learn so much from these boards. I learn about facts, sure, but I really learn about people. I think Cecil should still get some credit since that’s what has brought most of us together here.
In the world of fighting ignorance, Cecil is the Marquess de Queensberry - he didn’t invent it, the snake of Eden holds that title, but he defined and refined it. We, the Teemining Minions, are but towel boys and spit bucket girls, standing outside the ring, away from the danger, collecting the bodily excretions of the Master and owing any meager success we may claim solely to his allowance. Except for tomndebb, who, in honor of his service and a bitchin’ set of gams, is allowed to don a bikini and walk about the ring between rounds, holding up a placard displaying praises to Cecil. So it was, so it is and so it ever shall be. Amen.
I’d say, by volume, the SDMB. But that’s like saying “Which has more protein, a 20oz perfectly cooked steak or a slurry made up from a million bugs?”
If you count the ignorance spread on the board as offsetting the ignorance it fights, then Cecil wins by a landslide.
