Who has the best credit card perks?

I have a Citi dividend card which pays 5% cash back on gasoline, grocery and drug store purchases and 1% on everything else. They are reducing the 5% to 2% starting next month.

Does anyone know of any other credit cards that provide perks that would be better than the 2% I’ll be getting on my Citi card? I really don’t care about interest rates since I always pay in full each month.

They are reducing the 5%, I hadn’t heard this. Where did you get that info?

Seems true, although Citi CSR’s are giving all kinds of contradictory info. I got this card just recently before this news came out and I was told I would continue getting 5% until notified otherwise by mail. But on my online “Rewards Activity” page it is only crediting me 1% on all my purchases, and I only use it at gas stations/grocery/drug stores.

I can’t speak for the OP, but I have the same card and they sent me an official letter explaining the change in policy.

I can tell you who has the best perks on opinions on the SDMB.

It’s the forum IMHO

I’ll be happy to move it for you.

Chase has/had one (5% gas/grocery/drug), and if you have it they still give you that, but I’ve heard that it is difficult to apply for, if it’s even possile anymore. Discover (again has or had, well still has but I don’t know if you can apply for it) a 5% back on gas only card.

Besides that if you have a Subaru you can get 3% back on everything in Subie bucks.

Check out http://www.creditcards.com where they list all sorts of credit card offers. A quick perusal saw some ones that gave better percentages for gas purchases.

I came to this thread for exactly the same reason. Citi are going to lose lots of credit card users for this.

Do remember that the offer runs out in a while (not immediately) and remember to claim your last cash back when all transactions have been processed.

Citi Driver’s Edge card seems to be a logical choice, at least for next 12 months. What else do people suggest?

I love to travel. My personal favorite cards are:

Gold Amex SkyMiles Delta - It’s $85/year (first year free) but they give you 20k SkyMiles for joining. (Domestic coach SkySaver seat costs 30,000 miles) You earn double miles all the time on things like gas, prescriptions, groceries, etc. and they frequently run “double miles on everything” promos. I’ve had this card since 2001 and have earned enough miles to book 4 SkySaver coach seats from Cincinnati to Hawaii (Maui or Honolulu). I’ve paid $500 in fees but the retail value of my flights exceeds $3000.

Chase Marriott Premier Visa - first year free, $60/year after that. A hefty signing bonus in points, plus a certificate for a free night in a category 1-3 hotel. (After the first year, you get a certificate for category 1-4 hotel.) You earn double points for restaurants and double points for Marriott spending. I’ve accumulated enough points in 5 years to stay a week at the highest category hotel. I’ve paid $240 in fees, which is more than offset with the free night’s certificate. Plus I’ve earned enough points to book 7 nights in the highest category hotel worldwide.

Related question- if I’ve never ever had a credit card (and I haven’t), is it even possible for me to get one with perks? I have literally zero credit- a paid-off auto loan and four years’ worth of cellphone bills.

I’ve got an Amazon Visa card that gives a 3% reward on Amazon purchases, and 1% on everything else. The reward is an Amazon gift certificate, paid out every $25. I love it.

I actually applied for the card once and was denied due to a thin credit file. I tried again after making a few mortgage payments, and I guess that pushed me over the edge.

My Amazon visa card bonus is 2% on all purchases rendered as an Amazon gift certificate.

I have a Visa card that allows me to put any picture I want on the front, free up to 4 pictures a year. So I have ones with friends, with family, with my bird…
I also get a reward point for every dollar I spend. Nothing extra special, but I really like the different pictures and low interest rate.

I haven’t had one of these “cash back” credit cards.
(From what I understand the only way this is really any advantage to you is if you pay off the bill in full each and every month.)

Isn’t there also a monthly limit to how much “cash back” they give you? Something like $20 per month?

I don’t know if it’s worth it to carry an extra card, use it for $400 (at 5%) or $2000 (at 2%) each month and pay off the bill in full and on time each month just to make $20??

Even the new Citi dividend scheme is better than that. 2% on every purchase, payed as a check.
Get the Amazon card for the sign up bonus, but then dump it for a better perks card.

Sorry, scrub that. The new Citi scheme only gives 2% on supermarkets, drugstores, gas stations, convinience stores and utilities. 1% for all other purchases. So Amazon card is better for Amazon purchases.

I use this one, too. I originally signed up for it because they gave you a $30 gift certificate when you used it for the first purchase, and I used that to get the Return of the King extended edition DVD set (and a book) back when that came out. Didn’t use it for a while, but now it’s my main card. I have $100 in rewards certificates right now to spend, and I have my eye on several DVD sets.

In general, I don’t think I’d use any credit card unless it had some sort of bonus rewards back (and no annual fee). And I pay the balance off every month, so I don’t really care about whatever interest rate deals they try to use to entice you with…
