Who here has seen "Hamilton" on Broadway? Was it really worth the ticket price?

I saw it in D.C. in September, and immediately – like, before I finished applauding – wanted to see it again. It was near the end of the run, though, and prices for the rest of the shows were high, and I’d already shelled out for a Really Expensive seat.

Then, a couple weeks ago I made plans to go to NYC in late January to catch a show at Dizzy’s on a Wednesday night. After deciding to stay in town through the weekend (I have family in Manhattan), I realized it could be a perfect opportunity to finally see something on Broadway. After looking over the options, guess what I chose.

A “mid-premium” Thursday night ticket to see *Hamilton *at the Richard Rodgers Theatre isn’t cheap, but it’s almost $200 less than I paid in DC. I thought about it for a few days – *Wicked *was also in the running – but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I really need to see it again, and how perfect it could be as my first Broadway show. I pulled the trigger a few nights ago.

So, OP, I’ll be able to answer your question in about two months. But I’m 99% sure the answer will be a resounding YES.

No, and no. While the style of some of the numbers could best be described as hip-hop, the arrangements and content weren’t so much. Also:

I agree with you about Washington and Hamilton. The touring cast was really good and I thought Washington and Hamilton were better than the guys on the album. I felt Boston’s Washington was more stately and mature. The relationship between Hamilton and Washington made more sense that way rather than the two bros feeling I get from the album (It isn’t quite that dire, just a bit in that general direction).

And I plain liked the Boston Hamilton guy’s voice better. And I know we aren’t supposed to comment on the way actors and actresses look, but Hamilton is supposed to be this super good-looking guy. Martha Washington named her feral tom cat after him! Boston Hamilton guy was more believable on that front.

This for me as well.

We aren’t?

I liked the actor playing Hamilton, but felt that the guy playing Washington didn’t have the gravitas that Chris Jackson brought to the role.

I saw it here in Chicago, and it was totally excellent. As far as “worth” goes, that’s in the eye of the beholder.

Saw it in DC in September for my birthday; the better half snagged last-minute tickets near the end of the run that had been released without notice (they had cancelled a showing). The tickets were Not Cheap At All, but the seats were AMAZING (“get spit on by the actors” close). I had been a fan for years; better half had no exposure prior to buying the tickets. I had him listen to the CD several times before we went, because I felt that would enhance the experience for him.

Hamilton BROKE MY HUSBAND. Seriously; we walked out the door and he said “I’ll never be able to see a live show again. Nothing will live up to that.” For the past two months it’s all he’s listened to. We spent two weeks driving around Ireland listening to Hamilton. He has absolutely no qualms now about the cost of the tickets. Both of us would see it again in a heartbeat.

Neither of us were/are fans of hip-hop/rap, but Miranda’s work is just transcendent.

My daughter spent the 2014-2015 school year in NYC, and she saw* Hamilton* for twenty bucks*. I’d say she thought it was worth the price of the ticket.
*She won the lottery to buy two tickets at that price on the last weekend before she show moved to the Richard Rodgers Theatre. She had agreed to pool her chance with some stranger she met in the crowd. Her name was called, they each got their tickets, and they never saw each other again.

Granting that all of the good things that have been said about Hamilton are objectively factual, you should get him in a seat for Something Rotten. He’ll be back to normal soon enough.
