Who invented the Scramjet?

I have read on one website that the scramjet was invented by Australian Ray Stalker, the same
chap who invented the shock tunnel in which a great deal of testing on the jet was done.
I can’t seem to find any other references as to who invented this scamjet. Did Professor
Stalker invent it as stated on this site:

The basic idea behind the ramjet has been known for many years and teh germans played with it in WWII. The americans also toyed with the idea in the fifties, but never got beyond ground testing. The first practical designs were indeed from the 80s with stalker and others poineering the way. The main problem is the complex aerodynamics and chemistry in the combustion chamber

Thanks. I have of course seen that site. My question still stands; who invented
the scramjet? I have my doubts that it was Ray Stalker as quoted in the above website.
