Who is currently the hardest working man in show business?

Since James Brown isn’t with us anymore, who is currently the hardest working man in show business?

(no Ron Jeremy jokes, please)

And how about the hardest working woman?

Richard Simmons.

And Eva Longoria.

  • in Music? Prince; no question. You could argue for Bono given his political, philanthropic and venture capital activities, but from a pure musical standpoint, NO ONE works a crowd or dominates the music creation process (writing, producing, arranging and performing) like the Little Purple Guy.

Prince is a good choice, we saw him the last time he was through Chicago on the Musicology tour and seriously the guy was increadible. When you’re used to rock shows where there’s a bunch of standing around on stage, Prince will blow your mind. 20 some odd years past his prime and the guy has no problem entertaining for 3 hours, non stop. I don’t know how he does it.

I nominate Ryan Seacrest. When does that guy have time to sleep?

Bob Dylan. He is still performing live even though he died in the early 70s.

I was going to nominate the same guy. Not an entertainer per se but damn that guy gets around and is everywhere. He does his radio show out of LA, then I see him in Florida hosting the Disneyworld Christmas parade, then he’s in NY for the New Year’s gig, and probably filming American Idol at the same time.

It’s a toss-up between Tim Curry and Cheech Marin.

Kelly Ripa is a busy woman, though not quite as much as formerly.

George Clinton.

Warren Haynes, who’s been touring with either Gov’t Mule, the Allman Brothers and Phil Lesh & Friends/The Dead almost constantly over the last seven years.

The Boss is the hardest working musician.

I considered him - and he is a great, great frontman, storyteller, passionate artist, etc. - but all in, he doesn’t even come close to Prince’s talents as a musician, studio producer, concert choreographer/front man and performer. I say that with a deep respect for Bruce - but, seriously, stripping aside personal tastes in the music being performed, there’s no contest…

You can’t be serious? George Clinton is a crack cocaine addicted senior citizen who coasts on residuals and the occaisonal concert appearance.

Do not doubt the AtomicDog’s dedication to George Clinton.

Vince McMahon. Like or hate him, he throws his everything into everything he does.

I could agree with most of those, as Bruce isn’t spending his time choreographing his shows I’m guessing–but I would disagree with musical talent.

I didn’t know that Bruce played most of the instruments on his own albums.

Tom Bergeron

A couple of years ago, NPR’s Terri Gross was interviewing guitarist Richard Thompson and referred to him as the hardest working man in show business. And this is while James Brown was still alive!

probably not very well known in the US but british comedian Ken Dodd still does 3-4 hour concerts regularly at the age of 80.
