A term which really, really pisses off my friend from the Bahamas.
Jesse Jackson is the self-appointed ruler of Black America. He makes his living exploiting racial animosity. He was elected Delegate from the District of Columbia (that’s the “shadow senator” referred to above) but these days I don’t believe he holds any official position.
These would be Latin Americans who pitch V1agra?
His role and activities, as mentioned above, has been taken over by Al Sharpton, I believe.
I can see the Mods a’comin, they’re comin round the bend…
Jesse is the forgotten ‘sixth’ member of the Jackson Five.
He was voted out at the group of Josip Broz “Tito” Jackson.
The ouster was backed up by Jermaine La Jaune Jackson (also known as Muhammed Abdul Aziz)
You should have learned about this in history class.
From abroad, all the criticism about Jackson (the “us” vs the World mentality, turning every and any event into an “against us Blacks” rant, etc…) seems to apply far more to Sharpton than to Jackson (especially on rape cases, Sharpton seems to have a knack for picking the wrongest hill to die on when rape is involved).
I’m surprised though that a non American wouldnt be familiar with Jesse Jackson, he was rather present in international news (reporting on the US that is) during the eighties (and often mentioned in rap songs as well).
Indeed. Me, I’m also surprised that a trip to Google wouldn’t have been someone’s first option for identifying a public figure referenced in a cartoon. And even more surprised that someone whose screenname is “Black man” backwards wouldn’t know who he is.
But then again, there are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio…
Correct. His business model is the “shakedown”-basically he threatens business leaders by harassing them, unless they “contribute” to his organization. His son is owner of the largest beer distributor in St. Louis..which is kinda odd, as Jackson rails against the alcoholic beverage industry, for the role the play in keeping black people opressed.
When Jackson’s goons approached the CEO of Cypress Semiconductor (Dr. Fred Rogers) he told them to pound sand.

Frankly, I don’t think this is a serious question on the part of the OP. If it is, I recommend that you read the article on Wikipedia or other online sources for basic information, and then if you have specific factual questions start a new thread.
I also note that a number of the responses here constitute political potshots, and are inappropriate for GQ. I am not issuing individual warnings, but don’t do this again.
