I’m still ticked that my vote isn’t counted because of Florida, makes 'em sound too doggone important, and the rest of us are just chickenfeed, but besides THAT, Bush and Gore aren’t paying for these lawsuits themselves are they??
Taxpayers? The Democratic and Republican parties? Who hires the lawyers, the same people paying?
I would assume that it is paid for by the leftover campaign funds, and when they run out, from the party coffers. You know, where all that “soft money” went…
I heard that the parties are hitting up donors for money to pay for the suits. Also the donatations do not have the same requirments that the donations during the campain do. You can donate as much as you want and they don’t have to report it.
In an effort to inject some rigor into the debate I found an article on the subject.
The answer is bush and Gore are raising money to pay for the lawsuits.
The rules are different from political sontributions. There is a $5000 limit on contributions. No limit on in kind contributions.
Bush has said he will not accept corperate donations.
Gore is funding this under a different set of rules in which there are no limits for size of donations. But he said they will disclose all donations over $200.
