No insult intended to Yzerman, but I can’t see it being anyone other than Gordie Howe to represent the franchise.
San Antonio:
NBA, Spurs (Present): Tim Duncan
NBA, Spurs (Past): George Gervin
Yeah, I know Robinson played for the Spurs (hell, the Spurs damn near invented the concept of tanking so they could draft him (just like they did for Duncan)), but around town there’s a bit more Gervin-worship than Robinson-worship.
No love for the Brooklyn Islanders? Harsh, dude.
Current: John Tavares
All time: Bryan Trottier or Denis Potvin
Cleveland
Alltime:
Browns- Jim Brown
Indians-Bob Feller
Cavaliers- He who shall not be named, and who plays in Miami now.
Current:
Browns: Nobody who’s any good.
Indians: Ditto
Cavaliers: Kyrie Irving
Too far away from Jersey.
Whither thou Dale Murphy? How soon they forget…
Also, really Matt Ryan all-time? How about Bartkowski (not HoF, but certainly more history with the Falcons)? Or one of only three HoFers to play for the Falcons like Deion Sanders?
BTW, a search turned up this article. Now, I don’t know who Steve Alder is, but he’s got no business writing about Deion Sanders. “Neon” was a nickname given to Deion by the FSU sports marketing people and Deion is on record as hating it. Also, “And his highlight reel performances early in his NFL career quickly earned him the moniker “Prime Time”.” Dude, Deion was called Prime Time in HIGH SCHOOL. He had the nickname before starting at FSU let alone the NFL.
I think that a strong case can be made for the man who’s name in on the Super Bowl trophy.
Also applies to syphillis.
All-Time for the Steelers, I would imagine Mean Joe Greene first, Bradshaw second or Jack Lambert second.
Giants All-time has to be Lawrence Taylor.
Minnesota…
Current:
Vikings - Adrian Peterson, although Chris Kluwe has been picking up major press lately.
Twins - Joe Mauer
Timberwolves - Kevin Love
Wild - Have to go with Zach Parise, even though he has yet to play a game for the team.
All-time:
Vikings - If it’s allowed, I’d have to say Bud Grant. If not, it’s a tough choice, but I’d have to argue for Fran Tarkenton.
Twins - Kirby Puckett
Timberwolves - Kevin Garnett
Wild - Not much to choose from, but probably Marian Gaborik.
Mr. President, I agree with your picks, though I may go with Alan Page for the Vikings. Who would you choose if the North Stars were included?
Your not that old are you? Griffey is correct for the M’s, Hasselback, Kemp and Payton, no. Curt Warner for the Seahawks and Gus Williams or Lenny Wilkins for the Sonics.
Columbus, where the only pro team is the Blue Jackets. They traded away Rick Nash, so I honestly don’t know who the face of that team is. Goalie Steve Mason?
Ohio State has a pro football team. Eddie George?
OKC:
Kevin Durant and Kevin Durant
Not Steve Largent or Dave Krieg? As an outsider, I’m surprised that it’s not Gary Payton for the Sonics, too.
True, they get paid, but technically still NCAA. And it would Archie Griffin, anyway.
