That’s Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels, a citizens watch/militia type group. They used to patrol subway stations, etc. watching out for muggers and general lowlifes.
Unfortunately over the years, Sliwa got a reputation for being something of a crackpot (when he brought the GA to St. Louis, he decided to start by patrolling the parking lot of the most expensive, exclusive mall in the area – which had not suffered from any discernable crime problem) and his appearance this week seems to bear that out.
The beret was part of the Guardian Angels uniform and something of a trademark for him.
Here’s my guess. Bowtie figured the only way he could get people to say, “Boy, I wish Carlson would come back,” was to bring in a subsitute who was twice as dorky as Bowtie. :rolleyes: It must have been a struggle to come up with somebody who fit that description.
I guess. I’ve got a muddy hiking boot that is more eloquent and less offensive to my intelligence than Beret.
