This continues to be said and people are astounded that rural voters do not rush over and support the side that calls them a bunch of dumb bumblefucks that watch wrestling all day.
That’s telling the truth, and it comes only after telling other truths and being rebuffed.
Is that worse than what the other party does, lying to them continuously in the knowledge that they’ll believe it unquestioningly? Which approach is really more contemptuous of them?
How does Donald Trump and/or the Republican Party lie to white rural voters?
He lies to everyone. He lied about having a health care bill that would cover everyone for less cost. He lied about “draining the swamp.” He lied a about helping farmers. And coal miners. He lied about a thousand other things, both large and small.
The Washington Post had an interesting article about the shift in U.S. populations and the impact on politics. By 2040, about half of the American population will live in eight states (CA, TX, PA, IL, NY, NC, FL, GA). Adding in the next eight most populous states, and that will account of 70% of the U.S. population.
The impact of this shift is that 30% of the population will control 68% of the seats in the Senate.
Gonna bring those jobs right back from them furriners! MAGA!
“I love the poorly educated.”
Trump won whites with a college degree 49% to 45%.
I find these never ending race threads that bash White Americans at the high school level uneven. Don’t most minorities groups with less college education in comparison to the white group overwhelming vote for Clinton?
Yes–but the media doesn’t report that.
Did enormous favors for Minnesota farmers who planted soybeans! Now, with the trade wars, they needn’t bother with the expense of harvesting!
So how do *you *know?
CNN covered it on election night – cite.
Never heard a mosque yet that could talk.
Absolutely agree. And apart from looking for a handout, imagine his daughter trying to get into law school, but despite having better marks and a better LSAT score, her spot is taken by a black kid who grew up in a rich suburb.
To hell with him, right? Payback for slavery and Jim Crow. The left (except you) doesn’t understand why that is simply not acceptable.
I think large parts of the left understand that it is very controversial for those in the majority – who have typically had advantages in life that their counterparts of different races, sexes, or religions have not enjoyed – to let go of those privileges. After all, it is not really in most people’s nature to believe that there are forces outside of themselves that may contribute to a person’s well-being that are attributable to one’s own capabilities. The vast majority of people, no matter what the circumstances, will attribute their successes to themselves, and tend to attribute their failures to anyone but themselves.
However, where folks on the left diverge is whether it is justifiable to address the various privileges in play in order to make a more level playing ground for all Americans. I think folks on the right tend to believe that the level playing ground already exists, no matter how much evidence there is to the contrary.
It’s interesting that it’s her spot the black guy takes. What about the other applicants who had worse marks and LSAT scores?
But they agree with us that is how it should be. Didn’t yusta. Always look on the blight side of life!
As senoy said, that’s where your side loses the white middle to lower class. If I live in a trailer in KY and work at Wal-Mart, I have trouble seeing what privilege my daughter should have to give up so that the Fresh Prince of Bel Air can take her place at law school despite lower test scores and lower marks. Perhaps your side could do a better job of explaining that to them, or at least to me.
I’m not sure what your question is. I am assuming that on a strictly merit based system, the white girl is admitted. But because of the “holistic” or whatever other method the school uses, the black kid is elevated above her and takes the spot that she otherwise would have been awarded.
Considering the Fresh Prince of Bel Air aced his SATs and was offered a scholarship to Princeton in the TV show, I suspect you’re making a racist appeal here.
Admissions criteria can be complicated. Most good schools get many more applicants from qualified students than they have spots for. So, they have to look at other factors. I wouldn’t expect every spot go to a person with a slightly better GPA or LSAT score. (GPA scores from different schools don’t necessarily compare very well in any case) It’s good to have some students from different backgrounds, including rich black kids, poor black kids, rich white kids and poor white kids. A truly diverse classroom fosters a better education. I don’t know if that’s “holistic” or not, but it would make sense to me. As a middle class white guy, I certainly didn’t feel discriminated against by the school that rejected my applications.
tl/dr response: I don’t know why we should insist on “a strictly merit based system,” if you mean grades and test scores only.
So if we ranked the applicants, let’s assume there were 100, she was in 100th place?
After all this time, after all the lies, after all the lies about the lies, you have the temerity to ask that question now? You aren’t new this board nor to all the threads that have been on this subject, so for what purpose do you ask a question that has already been answered many times over? Are we to believe that if we posted information you already have your mind would change?
