Who Opens For Who?

Nor do I. I don’t know their history that intimately, but they sound pretty legit to me. I mean, “Toys in the Attic” is one of the classic early hard rock albums. I don’t like what they did with their sound in the late 80s and beyond (although they did put out good albums then, just not my cup of tea in terms of production), but their 70s stuff was awesome, for the most part.

Lewis did this when he opened for Chuck Berry, he then reportedly said “follow that nigger” and Berry beat the shit out of him.

Toys in the Attic is great.
Rocks is, well, fantasticorgasmical.

I’m not a fan of their later albums either, but they certainly are not a manufactured band; they’re the real deal in every possible definition.

And then afterwards they shook hands, went out for a few beers and then took turns fucking the stink out of a couple of 12 year-old girls…

The sad part is that this is disturbingly plausible.

Really? Class act. He would give his right arm to open for holographic Elvis now. Lewis didn’t have to be talked into opening for Presley, it was all of his Christmases come at once.

In the early 1980s I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn open for the Moody Blues which seems kind of strange now but he had just released his first record and while “The Present” wasn’t a big MB hit, the previous record “Long Distance Voyager” was a number one album.

Years ago “Rolling Stone” magazine had a “where are they now” and one of the members of The Cyrkle (who had a hit with a Paul Simon co-written song “Red Rubber Ball”), told of the time in 1966 when the Beatles opened for the Cyrkle. But that was a fluke…at an outdoor gig, the weather looked threatening, so the promoter decided to put the Beatles on to placate the crowd. They did their 35 minute show, the weather held up so the promoter decided, what the hell, let the Cyrkel play. Apparently one-third of the audience stayed.

I’ve seen Willie Nelson open for Bob Dylan and Bob Dylan open for Van Morrison. Both were rotating tours with two headliners that alternated.

Though the Dylan/Van show was the first Dylan concert I attended and he was the reason I went, it was for the best that he opened that night. The show was in Belfast (Van’s home town) and Van put on an incredible show that seemed to go on forever. Dylan’s set was incredible, including a song he played for only the second time in his touring career. It was all I could have wanted. And I didn’t know much about Van Morrison before that, but I was instant fan (but man, does that dude hate cameras).

Together they clocked almost four hours. Still number one on my concerts attended list.

The Beatles toured Britain a lot in 1963 after the Please Please Me album was released. Roy Orbison, Tommy Roe, a Chris Montez were among the headliners which became increasing awkward as the Beatles’ popularity skyrocketed.

I seem to recall that Lady Gaga opened for New Kids on the Block in her early days of touring, but correct me if I’m wrong. That seems laughable in retrospect.

I once saw The Flaming Lips open for Beck. That was really lopsided.

Back in the late 90s, I saw Stone Temple Pilots open for The Red Hot Chili Peppers. RHCP was probably the bigger name, but STP completely stole the show performance-wise.

I heard an anecdote from a friend that Metallica did an opening show under a pseudonym at a small pub. I’d hate to be a member of the band that followed.

I was about to call bullshit, but huh. Didn’t realize they’d gotten back together.
