Who owns SDMB?

I recommend that Dopers read this article, mainly about an alternate paper in Seattle: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/14/technology/progressive-newspaper-stranger-seattle.html?unlocked_article_code=1.108.C9AM.a1AdXSIyaWY5&smid=url-share

It includes the following paragraph:

“In addition to its online version, The Stranger is back in print, distributing 50,000 free copies a month. Its revenue comes from advertising and events. The staff of Noisy Creek has grown from 36 to about 60, not including The Chicago Reader, which Noisy Creek bought in August. Mr. Walkinshaw hopes the soon-to-be-announced editor of The Chicago Reader will add an endorsement board.”

Even when I was a mod, I never quite understood the connection between The Chicago Reader and SDMB, but there is certainly one.

BTW, I don’t think this belongs in the About forum because I don’t think very many people read it (I certainly don’t).

I think we disconnected from the Reader quite a while ago. The new owner is Chicago Public Media. See this other recent thread: Chicago Reader Being Sold (Again)

The Reader used to host the actual SD column (with Cecil).

At some point we should probably come up with a continuity plan… it’s only a matter of time before some new owner or another notices us, and then who knows what happens, lol.

I started another thread about that: What if the SDMB goes dark? Should we make a contingency plan?

“I don’t care who own da Strait Dope! I hate it here! My halergies! Puke everytime Blaaggh! Like that! Puke!”
