Since I stopped biting my fingernails several months ago I’ve been polishing them. I started out with clear polish until they grew well over the tips of my fingers. I’ve gone to colored polish now though. Whenever K-State has a home football game I paint my fingernails purple. (We play tomorrow and I’m ready!) Sometimes when the Chiefs play I go red with a yellow stripe. Kind of a pain in the ass but it looks cool.
My mom started painting my nails when I was four or five. I took over when I was old enough, but they’ve been continually painted since then. Except for a brief period where I would occasionally wear a dark purple, they’re always in some shade of red. Revlon is my favorite brand, since it stays on well.
Once in a while I paint my toenails, but can’t be bothered to paint my fingernails. The paint always chips quickly and I don’t like that look. Plus I have trouble keeping still long enough for my nails to dry. Oh, and I can’t do my own and have them come out anywhere near presentable.
I always paint mine red. Dark blood red (the specific colour is M.A.C Vino). I also have a thing with red lipstick.
However, our school is having this field-day type thing on tuesday where the classes compete against each other. Sophmores are supposed to dress all in blue, so I am going to paint my nails to match.
I can’t remember the last time I painted my fingernails. I do remember they always chipped and looked lousy and that’s why I quit. About a year and a half ago, my daughter painted my toenails purple - there was a power outage and she was bored so I held the flashlight and she did my toes.
When I was extremely pregnant, my husband wanted to paint my toenails. He did one then quit. I delivered my daughter with one pink toenail. That’s one of the most vivid memories of my pregnancy - how bizarre is that?!?
Almost never. It’s been years, actually. Like Mauvaise, I just don’t want to take the time to maintain it. Once in a great while I’ll do the toes, or get a pedicure, but it’s very infrequent. If I’m going to go for spa services, I’d much rather have a massage than a manicure or pedicure.
I get a manicure every two weeks. No real color; just the modern version of the “French” manicure. Any more than two weeks between manicures and the paint starts to chip. Manicures keep me from picking my cuticles to shreds.
I had long nails and painted them all through junior high and high school. I still painted them occasionally after that, but I don’t think I’ve done it for probably 6 or 8 years now. My husband doesn’t really like the look anyway and I don’t care for the look of short painted nails.
I get an urge to do my toenails once in a while. I might give in sometime. My daughter is also entering the extreme girlitude stage and I know she’s going to be wanting me to do it for her very soon.
Pretty much always. I do my nails twice a week. I use a base coat, a top coat, a finishing spray, and do an extra coat just on the tips so it lasts longer. I also have a huge nail polish collection, mainly because I hate wearing the same colour twice in any given six month period. At last count, I had nearly 60 bottles, and the collection still grows.
Me, a lot. Not as much as lolagranola, but almost.
I only have about forty bottles or so. I’ve been told I’m not allowed to buy any more until I’ve worn everything I have at least once. But, but, I can’t wear some of those colors until I wear the outfit I bought them to go with.
:whiplash topic change:
Have you seen the new Sally Hansen chrome colors? Gorgeous, simply gorgeous. I’m sitting here with the turquoise chrome on, and it really goes with the motherboards. Black pearl is nice as well - it goes well with the servers.
My toenails are usually painted. My wife does them while we’re watching a movie or otherwise doing something that prevents her from plucking my eyebrows.
Usually purple or black, ocassionally some other color. Never red; that’d be too girlie.
Ooh, chrome colors? Mobo teal? I must seek these out. I don’t know how many bottles of nail polish I have, actually. A lot. It’s sort of an addiction. I do mine about once a week, two base coats (dark colors stain the nail bed, y’know), two to three color coats, and a a top coat. Every two weeks or so I do the full manicure routine, trim, file, repair or replace tips if necessary, etc.
Obfus, by the time your toes are painted, it’s a little late to worry about girlie.
I paint my nails black or charcoal grey when I do Goth.
The black pearl is awesome. I like a couple of the others too, but black is the only one I’ve picked up so far. For those wondering, it’s not black, but a very dark silver.
I stood in a wedding last month, and so grew my nails and got them manicured for it. I’ve been painting them myself since, once a week, with a second coat of clear added midweek. That coat of clear keeps them lasting until the next weekend without chipping. If they chipped a lot, I couldn’t be bothered to do it either. As for the drying time, I find I can type while they dry - it’s a great excuse for surfing the net for an hour!
I used to paint my fingernails like watermelons (I know, I know … tacky as hell). At the time I thought they were the coolest - I’d paint my nails lime green, then paint red over 3/4 of it, then use a toothpick dipped in black polish to draw in little pips. It’d take me ages to do both my hands.
Nowadays, I just use a pearly white/lilac colour.
Love to paint my nails. Also love to have them painted occasionally for me. They are 1/2 inch long. Right now they are midnight blue with white/red airbrushed stripes. They are gorgeous.
I love having long nails as I chewed them til I was 26. Now I am rarely without polish as I am proud of them.
oh yeah, blue is favorite colour for nails
Yes, I am a fingernail painter. I have to keep my nails short because I find it impossible to type with them long, so I think they look much nicer painted. They are usually some shade of brown, although I recently found a shade that matches my haircolour almost exactly (light auburn), which is pretty cool.
I only do my toenails when I wear sandals, so it’ll be about another nine months before they get done again.
I loved it when I painted my nails. I used to have short nails from nailbiting, but I grew them out and they looked great with polish. But i found out quickly that I would have to do my nails about every other day, because the paint would chip and look ugly. I’m a nurse, and always washing my hands, and performing many tasks with my hands, and it just trashed the nails. So I don’t paint 'em anymore. And I’ve gone back to nailbiting. But at least I know I can grow nice nails if I ever wanted to again!
I paint fingernails and toenails pretty often. My favorite is deep red with a deeper-purple-red stripe. Or, sometimes, I do silver toenails with a turquoise (or some other nice color) flowert on the corner of the big toenail.
I think it’s time to go paint my nails.
I never miss my appointments at the nail salon where I have the acrylic overlay done. I go for a fill in about every 2 1/2 weeks, but I will usually change the polish after about a week or so. I would love to let them get really long but being an RN that just isn’t practical. I don’t think patients like it when you have dragon lady nails.
I tend to like dark colors in the fall & winter and brighter colors and pastels in the spring & summer. Right now my fave is Opi’s Russian to a party.
I just picked up the Jade Chrome color. Can’t wait to try it.
