If you’re 40+ years old, you may remember the Space Fidgit. My brother and sister each had one in the 70’s. I might have had one too, but I can’t remember for sure; I would have been about five years old at the time. For some reason they popped into my head this morning, so I looked them up. Googling “liquid crystal toy” brought that link up in the results.
Looks like somebody has a handful of recently made ones available for sale; I just bought one.
Oh! I had one of those! Haven’t thought about them in forever.
Now I want it back.
I didn’t have one of those but in my sticker collection I did have stickers with that goo in them. I still have my sticker collection!
I bought mine during the few years the venerable Franklin Institute had their Future Center. For those who aren’t familiar- The FI is an old, respected and darn good science museum. In the late eighties or so, they got worried they were outdated. So, they spent a buttload of money on The Future Center. The FC was filled with 20th century technology, all of which rapidly became outdated. But, I still have the Space Fidgit from the FC gift store.
