Who saw Law & Order SVU tonight?

They had a character from Mandeville, Louisiana on tonight’s episode.

Does everybody in the world think that people from Louisiana speak with a “Southern” accent? I’ve seen this over and over again all my life. This guy tonight sounded like one of the “Designing Women”. I’ve spent my entire life in the New Orleans area and have never heard any real person speak like that. If it’s not a Southern accent, it’s a Cajun accent (we don’t hear too much of that around here either).

Is New Orleans the only place that TV and movie characters don’t sound they way real natives of that area sound?

I’m in the southern U.S. and hear phony southern accents in movies and television all the time. There must be dialect coaches in Hollywood who have never actually heard the accents they are teaching the actors except on television and in movies.

Southern accents are always wrong. Even Alton Brown, from Georgia, does a bad fake southern accent when he puts on his “Confederate Colonel” outfit.

I guess they figure no one would notice the bad accents, what with all the atrocious writing.

What the hell has happened to SVU? It was nice to see McCoy though, and in his new position to boot!

Yeah, that was only McCoy’s second appearance on SVU, his first being way back at the beginning of the series. I just saw on NBC’s message boards that the new season of Law & Order starts in January with McCoy as DA.
