Who should be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame?

Now that Rush is in, what artists still haven’t made it that you think should get in?

Here’s my list - I don’t necessarily like them all (cough Kiss! cough), but, given the makeup of the current inductees (list here), I think they’re worthy:

Nick Drake
Kraftwerk
Kiss
Cheap Trick
Joy Division/New Order
Devo
The Replacements
Husker Du
My Bloody Valentine
The Jesus & Mary Chain

Admittedly, those last 4 are extremely unlikely.

They were inducted in 1990.

I was waiting for it.

The Pixies

Linda Ronstadt

The Moody Blues.

They have all the influence, legacy and sales. I have no idea why they have been shunned all these years.

Wow. I had no idea they weren’t. That is bizarre.

On a similar vein, I see the Electric Light Orchestra isn’t inducted either.

I second many of the above bands, in particular Cheap Trick, the Pixies, and ELO.

I can’t stand them, but the Smiths.
Alex Chilton needs to be in the hall, either with the Box Tops or Big Star.
Lou Reed as a solo artist.
Sonic Youth.
I’ll cheat and say Nirvana, but they’ll be in next year.

Not going to happen, but I can dream: Guided by Voices, Pavement, and Yo La Tengo, the holy trinity of 1990s indie rock. (With the understanding that Pavement’s not yet eligible, but they’re not going to get in regardless.)

Are there any performers in the Hall with as little recorded output as MBV? For all intents and purposes with regard to the HoF, they’ve got two albums - Loveless and The Other One.

Of course, Nirvana in one year’s time. :smack:

And the Sex Pistols.

Hall and Oates

1st choice is KISS - most gold records by any american rock band ever.

2nd choice - Cheap Trick

3rd choice - Deep Purple

Alice Cooper.

Dick Dale

Wow. Thanks Nemo. I’d never heard of the guy before, but you make a good case. I [del]love[/del] dig the sound.

Todd Rundgren, dammit!

Both as a performer AND as a record producer! See this previous thread for a long list of reasons why.

Bonzo Dog Band
Spirit
Soft Machine

Deep Purple and the Moody Blues are no-brainers to me. They SHOULD have been elected a long time ago.

Among the acts I’d vote for… these are NOT all bands or artists I like. Many acts I love definitely do NOT belong in the Hall of Fame (like Blue Oyster Cult) and many acts I hate definitely do (Madonna). But among the acts I deem worthy (because they were either very popular, very prolific, or very influential):

Pat Boone (don’t laugh- he was the 2nd best selling artist of the 50s, and the man who introduced Fats Domino, Little Richard, and rock music in general to much of white America)

Chicago

Deep Purple

Dire Straits

Doobie Brothers

Daryl Hall and John Oates

Judas Priest

King Crimson (not that there’s any arena that could fit all the former members)

KISS

Kraftwerk

Manfred Mann

Moody Blues

Paul Revere and the Raiders

Yes

The Zombies

After that, there are a lot of “Ron Santo” and “Gil Hodges” acts. Meaning, acts that were at least as deserving as many current inductees, and who wouldn’t be outrageously BAD selections, but whose current exclusion doesn’t really outrage me.

Bad Company
The Cars
Cheap Trick
Electric Light Orchestra
Iron Maiden
Jethro Tull
Journey
Kansas
Scorpions
Styx
Supertramp

Another vote for the Replacements, Husker Du, the Pixies, the Smiths, Dire Straits, and Lou Reed. I’ll also add:

Los Lobos
Taj Mahal
Ry Cooder
Rick Rubin
Uncle Tupelo (in 2015)
